This autofeeds a 1/4 inch of line every time it has been turned off for 2 seconds? Is there a way to override this to stop the automatic feed? Got a couple of spots in the yard that takes a lot of on-off.
Asked by: Oinc
Hi, Mark- Thanks for the question. The auto-feed function can't be over ridden. The best way to control the dispensing of the line would be to keep the trigger depressed throughout operation so it doesn't feed. We hope this helps!

What is the difference between the "18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer/Edger" and this model? Other then the 24 volts vs 18 volts? More weight, a little more power, but less run time?
Asked by: Onic
Hi, Onic- The most significant difference is the battery voltage. The 24V vs. the 18V provides a bit more runtime and a bit more power. However, the 18V models are compatible with ONE+ batteries, so that's a great choice if you already have some of these batteries.

That said, there are a few drawbacks to owning this model. For starters, you will go thru a lot of string because it simply doesn't hold up. Secondly, do not expect this trimmer to last longer than a few seasons, at best. The concept is great, the design however, is lacking. For instance, the support wheel for edging is insufficient and should be a shorter dual-wheel system or a single, wide wheel system for rolling over cracks or gravel on sidewalks. The battery gives good adjustable power which is nice, but you need to work quickly if you have a larger yard (charge time is not bad either). The joint where the two pieces connect is sensitive and can become damaged if the connection isn't JUST PERFECT! My 2nd one just died so that makes two in last 5 years. if you are not big on lawn maintenance, this product will work for you. As for me, I'll be shopping around a bit this season.

Handles my 2 acres which has lot of areas to trim. This is my second one of these, the first lasted about four years of very hard work. Tried a gas trimmer but don't like as much as the 24-volt Ryobi.

I said average because the first mower I bought didn't work so I had to return it boxed which was heavy and inconvenient. The second one worked fine. One of the garden employees helped me put it together at the store and it worked! It is really easy to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ryobi 24 Volt Weed Eater It definitely lived up to recommendations. I have about an half acre yard and it has never died on me. On the thicker weeds, I did I have to work from the top to the bottom but I was told about that by previous reviews. The only flaw that I have is not with the weed eater per se but there is not that many products that use the 24 volt battery. Hopefully that will change in the future. I really like the feeding and replacing the line. When I showed it to my father-in-law he was greatly impressed with it.

The first one was returned for credit after 30 minutes of use. The second was a gift a couple of years ago and I am ready to replace it. (Only used two times) They use a lot of string to trim the yard (Two spools). The biggest problem is that the string gets tangled on the spool. I have to stop and take everything apart about every 6-10 feet. Good battery (24 volt)--bad product.
