Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good buy for the money. Difficult to use continuous overflow. This is a good buy for the money. Plug it in and let it go. The bucket fills up very often, but I planned on using the contiuous overflow anyway. The design of the continuous overflow is not well thought out. Hooking the hose up requires nimble fingers and a lot of patience. The designers should take a 1/32 off the plastic nipple so the hose fits on easier. The hose hould be an 1-1/2 longer as it barely sticks out of the back of the cabinet. Better yet, thread the inside nipple and provide a hard piece of pipe threaded to fit to the inside nipple with a hose thread on the outside. Have not had good life, >2yrs, with other products. Will have to wait and see how long this product lasts. July 30, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works but has some drawbacks. I live in a 750sq foot apartment and I hate humidity. This dehumidifier really works. I have to empty it at least twice a day and the air feels perfect. It is, however, loud. If I want to watch TV, I have to turn the unit off. It also pumps out a great deal of warm air, enough to kick off my air conditioner more than usual. If you live in a small space like I do, I might try something else first. For larger spaces, this unit will be perfect. I've had it for about 3 months and it's still working fine. Recommended with reservations. July 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for the most part I have had this for about three weeks. It is in a basement that is fairly damp. I bought this to replace a different brand that died after 18 months of use. This unit was easy to unpack and assemble. It does seem that the humidity level reader is not completely accurate. I have an independent humidity reader that shows a lower reading. I just adjusted the percentage on the dehumidifier to reach the desired reading on the independent humidistat. Since this didn't bother me too much, I am not going to return it. At first it seemed the defrost feature was constantly kicking in, but as it's gotten warmer in the basement this has stopped. So far it is doing a nice job. I'll let you know in 18 months if it fared better than its predecessor. April 17, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by I give it a "C-" It's pretty and it works fine except for the hose hookup which doesn't work at all. The directions are poor, to begin with, and why it requires a plastic tube (included) to be pushed onto the outlet and then a length of hose (not included) pushed onto the tube is just plain goofy. And IT DOESN'T WORK! So I have to empty the blasted thing every day. Why it doesn't have a threaded connection to use with a regular garden hose is a mystery. If it weren't so heavy and I could pack it up by myself, I'd send it back. October 30, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, works great! I purchased this for my (usually) musty & damp basement. Within one day of using it there was a noticeable difference in the smell of the air in my basement - no more musty odor! & no more dampness! The reservoir needs to be emptied often but I knew when I purchased the unit that it only held 40 pints. I previously had a larger dehumidifier made by a different manufacturer that broke and wasn't able to be fixed, so I figured I would take my chances with a smaller unit. So far, so good! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dehumidifier works great We purchased two of these to replace a pair we had that had either fully failed or partially failed. The SP40 draws a full bucket in less than 12 hours, working quietly in our basement condo, keeping the humidity down. The only drawback I have found with them is the design of the bucket, and in emptying them, water tends to be directed by the full sensor to spill out the side of the bucket. That has been the only drawback I have found on what is otherwise an excellent product. September 13, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by loud unit, even for basements I read all the reviews, did my homework, and thought I'd bought the pick of the is louder than I expected. I was replacing a S* was much quieter and did a good job as well. I'm sure these units can vary from one to another. It does do a good job in removing moisture...and has a turbo setting, but never had to use it...that setting will increase the noise level as well. It is a compact design, unfortunately you sacrifice design for reservoir size. June 29, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works, but has issues Bought the unit about 5 months ago to replace one I had which failed after 10 years of use. Use them in basement to keep humidity down when A/C isn't on. The unit works great, is silent and was easy for me to set up. Except for the following problem. Since it sits in the basement, it was important to me to have the ability to hook up a drain hose as it doesn't get checked everyday. That is what drew me to this unit. Hooked it up in the same spot as previous unit on level floor with hose run directly into floor drain. Seemed to work for a while, but I soon found most of the water was bypassing the hose outlet and filling the tank which causes the unit to shut down until I empty it.. It is an internal leak, and there is nothing I can do about it. So I guess I'll be stuck emptying it a couple times a week. Inconvenient, but at least it keeps the basement dry. July 26, 2012
