Customer Questions & Answers

I just installed and can see lines will this disappear over time

Asked by: Me
Lines are usually caused by improper installation. With mine as long as the arrows matched, and I made sure the carpet didn't get pinned between pieces, there are no lines.

Die lot varies from box to box so you may find a box where the color doesn't match Some are a quarter inch larger or smaller than others. size fluctuates. Some are sticky some have no stick what so ever. Many were missing a row of yarns on the edges so you could see the backing at the seams. Some where missing the Plastic on the back. Some were curled up and would not stick. Pros: None. I am a professional flooring installer and have installed miles of carpet tile and these are by far the worst i have ever seen. Wish i could give it negative stars. I would say of the 150 carpet tiles we bought about half of them were good enough to install.

If you're a "pro" of any type - save yourself some hassle and don't buy this. Not sure why any pro would by this type of product and expect high end results. I, personally, own a 150 yr old home and am not used to anything working out exactly as planned so I am more of a "think ahead" and "troubleshooter" when it comes to projects. Buy a few rolls of carpet tape. Use it along outside walls and where 4 tile corners meet. If you have to rip a tile up, using carpet tape also makes it reusable. If you have less than ideal stickiness on your tile, carpet tape solves that. If your floors aren't perfectly level, a little carpet tape helps the tile adhere. Two rolls of tape are about $10. No matter how hard you try, you are likely to see some seams. If you're a perfectionist, this product isn't for you. Clean you floors as much as possible before installing tile. Let the tile sit at room temp 24 hours as directed. Pull any old nails or staples from previous carpet padding. Sit, walk on, or roll each piece to get proper adhesion. Use some common sense and you will have a decent floor. But don't waste your time comparing it to "real" carpet with professional installation. It's a different product altogether.

After two months, the carpet is holding up well, and looks good. It's very comfortable with bare feet or shoes. I would recommend this product, with some reservations. Installation takes time and some attention to detail: 1. Not all tiles are the same size. I bought 12 cartons at a Home Depot; of the 120 tiles, 77 were 23-3/4 in wide, 26 were 23-13/16 in, 11 were 23-11/16 in, and 6 were 23-7/8 in. (This was okay for me, since I was planning to place the tiles in rows anyway.) Per carton = 39.22 ft². 2. Not all tiles are exactly the same color pattern. Three of mine were a different color -- I put them in a closet. One tile got ruined because I didn't notice this, but I was able to use part of it for an edge. 3. Make sure the padded bases fit exactly flush. Hence the other comments about getting the fibers out of the way when fitting tiles together -- a wide putty knife or stiff brush comes in handy. 4. There was variation in the adhesive backing, some truly wimpy. I used double-sided carpet tape (2 inches wide) to compensate. Place tiles carefully and slowly, checking gaps with adjacent tiles. If you do it slowly, you might be able lift it and start over. 5. Be careful when cutting tiles. As another reviewer said, cut only from the back, and use a good metal straight-edge (a 24" steel square is good). Change blades in your utility knife often: one tile is $7+, knife blades cost about $0.26, don't skimp there. Measure several times before cutting, especially odd ones. Use a big square to ensure right angles. 6. Lay out your floor first, on the floor or on paper or on the computer, to avoid difficult cuts or tiny slivers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way better than expected!! I love these tiles! I got the Mountain Mist color. The pictures on the site look like the tiles are a solid color, but they are actually speckled. They were so easy to put down and they look wonderful in my basement! You can't expect them to feel like a plush, padded carpet because they aren't. The padding is only about 1/4" thick, but they are perfect for basements! The seams are barely visible. We noticed that they seemed to be more visible when we weren't careful about getting the carpet fibers out of the way before putting the next tile down. It took us about 5 hours to do 500 square feet, start to finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great DIY project These carpet tiles are amazing for replacing an old carpet in a bedroom. They are a great value for what you get. They are pretty easy to intstall for the most part. You really have to pay attention to the arrows when putting them in and especially if you have to cut pieces and you want to use the other pieces left over you want to be sure to mark arrows on the left over pieces. When installing make sure you really take your time and be very precise when cutting the tiles because it can mess the whole thing up. It took me 5 hours to do a room 14 feet by 11 feet and I couldn't be happier with the turn out. The adhesive on the tiles was enough to make them stick to my wood floor. This is definitely a great alternative for new carpeting without having to hire someone to come install. I can not express enough about being patient because at some points it seemed like the whole thing was ruined but it was fixable because you can rip it back up and replace it to the floor without adhesive being ruined. Defiantly a 10 out of 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Bought to do a bedroom. I'm a 67 year old woman & had no problem laying it. You do not see the seams, BUT you must lay it to match the seams. Glad it's not super sticky as I had to pull some up. It gradually sticks more with traffic. I was short two tiles & had to buy an additional box. Wish they sold samples. At least I know if I spill something or the dog has an accident, I have enough to replace area or switch with another tile in an unseen corner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the price! Tiles were delivered on time, no damaged boxes. I ordered 10 boxes, so I opened them all, checking for defects or color variations. I found none. As noted in other reviews, the tiles are not 24x24 exactly. More like 23 7/8 x 23 7/8. Doesn't sound like much, but if you have a 12' x12' room and you start in a corner, you'll come up about an inch short! Not cool! A couple of tips on installation. Use a new blade in your utility knife to get a nice, clean cut line, and replace it as soon as it starts to tear the padding. And always cut on the padded side, using a flat straight edge. I used a carpenter's square, and it worked nicely. After laying a tile, don't press down on the edge you're going to butt on next. You'll get a smooth transition if you butt the two edges at the same time, and seam lines will be harder to see. I kept a vacuum handy for all the fuzzy that accumulate, and that really helped. Lastly, plan ahead so you don't have narrow ( less than 6 inches) cuts - they're hard to do, and it looks tacky. Good luck, take your time, and it will look great! At least my wife thinks so! And happy wife, happy life!

I installed it and it looked fairly decent for what I paid for it. Some of the seams do not line up well and remain visible (yes they were lined up correctly). The problem happened when I realized that the sticky back was non existent. I decided when this product was loose and pulling up easily that it was not going to last. I recv'd quotes for actual carpet install for the same price I paid for these unit (10 boxes). I contacted the company who makes it and after several days they finally replied only stating I should use glue. I would not have purchased this if I knew glue was needed - that defeats the purpose of using this product. The product has NO INSTRUCTIONS about installation or anything at all, and even online documentation never mentions using glue or substrate substance in certain applications. Neither Home Depot or Berkshire Flooring would make any restitution. I am simply out $300.
