Questions & Answers

I need a product which will span 16 inch enginered floor truses in a basement ceiling. Will this 16 in product work for me?

I noticed under specifications it says the product is 15.5 long. So are thet 15.5 or 16 inches? Thanks. Linda
Asked by: Linda
Did you measure the space for which you need them? That is the only way to get your question answered. "16 inch insulation support" means for rafter/stud spaces that are 16 inches on center, which means the space in between is probably 14.5in.

I have a 1650 SQFT home how far apart do I space the ties? How many cases will I need?

Asked by: sssandelin
Every 12 to 18 inches, if your house has a center beam in the crawl space. You might need one on the other side of the beam.

Can you cut them..Too fit

Asked by: tim
Yes. They are made of hard, rigid steel so you need to use a strong cutter or your hands will get tired pretty quick depending on how many you need to cut.

Push it up between the floor joists and it holds the insulation. If the floor joist spacing isn't standard you'll need to get creative. Like cutting some of it off. Still pretty simple. Don't push them up too far or they'll compress the insulation too much. That decreases the R value, which is the effectiveness of the insulation. Take your time, use your head, and the nasty job will get done quicker.

The Simpson Strong-Tie in which I wasn't aware of at all until a Home Depot rep suggested it to me, has worked wonders! I was insulating my crawl space and I thought a staple gun would do, boy was i wrong. In less than 10 minutes, and a little bit of sweat and i was done! Thanks Home Depot! SG

Used on a older house in the basement where the craft faced insulation had drooped down. No one had stapled the insulation in place back then apparently. They worked exceptionally well to support the insulation between the rafters. I will definitely use again.

They are cheaper than buying long drill bits and they are so small that they can be easily filled if you make a mistake.
