A:  Hello jake, This is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The difference between A23 and A23Z is the layer of sacrificial zinc on the part. A23 has the lower, interior grade galvanization only suitable for a dry interior installation not in contact with most pressure treated lumber. A23Z (Zmax finish) has a heavier layer of zinc suitable for a wet or exterior installation and/or contact with most pressure treated lumber. The A23Z can be used indoors or out.
