About This Product

Soil Doctor 40 lb. Pelletized Gypsum Soil Repair is a naturally occurring mineral made up of mostly calcium and sulfur. Incorporate it into your lawn care to counter the damaging effects of salt and animal waste and to break up heavy clay soil. It helps to improve drainage and encourages deep, healthy root growth. Gypsum does not alter soil pH, so it is safe to use around evergreens and other plants that require acidic soil to grow.

magic for clay soil!
I live in Southfield on property that is tree lined and the soil is pretty much clay. For years I have bought potting soil and manure to add to the soil, but it usually just sort of disappeared. This year I remembered my mother adding gypsum to the soil in Detroit. I tried the gypsum pellets and watered them in. The next morning I was able to put my shovel all the way into the ground! It was like magic! When I think of the 30 years I've scratched up the ground and struggled, I just shake my head! Love it!

Magic
I read a review on this product, it sounded exactly like what I need to break this clay soil. I really had nothing to lose, since I spent a bit of money and it didn't seem to work. I sprayed the product, watered it, and in a few hours I was able to easily turn that soil. I had spent several hours before and couldn't get past a few feet, with this product, in 2 hours I was able to turn an 18 yard x 8 yard area in less than 2 hours. I went ahead and sprayed it on my lawn as well, and within a week I can see the difference already. I will use it regularly from now on!

Simple solutions are usually the best solutions
if you have sticky hard gumbo clay soil, like most of us in Texas, you NEED this. I've known about what gypsum can do, but I never tried it until I bought a new house and the ground was impossibly difficult to work. Sprinkle gypsum, water it in, let it sit overnight. The next day you are able to turn the soil to about 12"....(almost) effortlessly. I'm not sure how it works, but it makes the clay less sticky, so it doesn't stick to the shovel/fork. THe clay ends up being more crumbly. This also brings air into the clay, great for plant roots. it also adds calcium which is deficient in a lot of soils.
