This unit lasted exactly one season and that was with minimal use. The center of the reel collapsed and the sides look like they deformed from too much heat. Stay away from this junk.

Surprised to see everyone else's looks just like mine. Less than one year of light residential use...hose reel broken, 100 ft. of never kink hose. I'd say it's a design flaw. Suncast must not really test their designs prior to production.

What seemed like a good value was only cheap. It broke in less than two months, on the reel "axis" as others have described. The thin plastic attach points fro the reel are not robust at all; the hose was a 75' 5/8" hose, nowhere near the 175' hose capacity advertised. The newer, higher-capacity reel seems to have the same design flaw.

The picture pretty much speaks for itself. 3 months old, 150' of hose.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BGPIII Hose reel broke after a month
I had just purchased this hose reel a month ago and it has already broken. The point where the spool attaches to the outside base (opposite the hose connection side) broke under the weight of the hose. The hose is a 100', 5/8'' hose. It was full of water and completely wound around the spool when it broke. This reel obviously cannot support the size hose that it advertises.

I was tired of coiling my hose on the ground and when it was cold it was like wrestling an octopus. This hose reel took all of that away and it is easy to reel it out and roll it up. This winter I will blow it out with compressed air and then store it in a garden shed. No more hose in the snow and worrying about it bursting the first time in the spring I put water pressure to it. This is light and it rolls up very easy. I like it came with a hose to go from the reel to the faucet so I don't unreel all of the hose to hook it up to the faucet. Once it is rolled up it is easy to move from one faucet to another because it is compact. Well worth the money to store my hose.
