I'm trying to set up my camp staying off the grid using a combination of propane and 12V RV lights and fixtures. I would eventually like to adapt a 12V motor to operate the deep-well hand pump I intend to install in my well.

I get the idea of adding up all my appliances and lights, etc to determine what my load will be. What I'm curious about is if I can buy a small cheap system to start with and add on to it over time, or if I just need to "tighten the belt" and buy a complete system designed for the total load I eventually hope to run with it. Thanx in advance for your advice!

Answer:
Our solar panels can be connected in parallel in order to increment total output. You can start with a few solar panels and add more later on as you develop a better picture of your energy needs.

Answer:
Assuming a battery capacity of 80 Ah, two of these batteries in parallel with room for a 25% charge (40 Ah), this panel would require approximately 40 hours.

Answer:
In order to recommend solar panels for a specific application, we need to know the power rating or consumption of the device in question. BTU rating does not reflect the power consumption of the air conditioner. Instead, look for the unit's Wattage, or Amperage and Voltage information and submit it for system sizing. You can contact Sunforce Products directly for more assistance on these calculations.

15-Watt Solar Battery Charging Kit is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sunforce 15 Watt Solar Battery Charging kit I purchased this kit in October 2011 to maintain a large garden tractor battery controlling the LED lighting system in my shed. I later added a switch-over circuit to maintain the batteries in a portable generator (winter) or lawn tractor (spring/summer). I haven't had to replace any batteries since. It charges even on overcast days with no visible sun. After 4 years and 10 months of weather extremes (sub-zero winters, 100+ degree summers, heavy rain & hail) it finally gave out. I'll replace the panel and see if the old one can be repaired. Well worth the money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell I bought this product to replace an identical one that failed after nine months. The failed product was replaced under warrantee (now I have two). This process took a little over five weeks (!) since the manufacturer is in Montreal and the product must be returned across international boundaries. I am hoping I don't need to repeat that process. The product itself is excellent: the panel works well even when there is very little sun, like on a day when there are no shadows! The charge controller is very simple and does a good job of keeping my batteries topped up. It can be used with up to seven panels. I'm not crazy about the connectors used between the panel and the controller. I little warping with pliers makes them more reliable. I'm looking into replacing them with something better. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a similar type solar charging system (used for keeping cellphones charged, some rechargeable lights and occasional computer use.). The "15W" specification is a little inflated. Another unnamed company sells this identical product as an "18 Watt" system. Since this charges a 12-volt battery with a maximum of 1.0 A per panel, 12-13.6 W would be a more honest number, since that's how much power you can actually expect to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation! Awesome product! I put this on my RV and started charging my batteries right away. Installation only took an hour and I had to run the wires. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked exactly as promised I have a construction trailer that is designed to run off house power, or inverted battery power. This solar panel keeps the batteries charged, all the time, without having to plug in a battery charger. Makes my trailer, and its tools, solar powered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my stored Motor Homes battery I needed something to charge my battery in my stored Motor Home and this looked like it would do nicely. It was well priced and arrived on time with free shipping in a very well packaged box. No broken or missing parts. You have several options to connect to your battery. You have clips to connect directly to your battery's terminals or you can use the included adapter to plug directly into the lighter/power outlet if it works with the key in the off position, and you can also wire it directly to the battery as well. Most of the connections are plug and play but not all. It comes with the regulator you need to keep it from overcharging. It has a very long wire so I just layed it on the roof and plugged it into my lighter outlet. So far it is working as advertised. I will also use this solar charger while dry camping as it will top off my coach battery during the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Solar Charger This is a very well built unit and came with several adapters for various connections to your load. The output is right as advertised even in low light conditions. Perfect for what we are using it for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Replacement after 14 months This was a replacement unit. The original had shown reduced voltage after 14 months mounted in a safe location. Apparent water damage and washing out of the thin silicon layer. Barely attached wire. Construction is not substantial.
