are the side walls actually 30inches and if so can they b trimmed down by what method
Asked by: Phil
Side walls are 30", but that is made up of a 28" end panel and 2" of corner panel after overlap. The material can be cut. I know this from using a hole saw to drill holes for the faucet. I would expect any reciprocating saw to be good for trimming. You 'might' be able to trim 1" +/- from the corner panel and still mate well with the end panels. Trimming from the end panels, outer edge assumed, is doable. However, having a good look after that is problematic as both sides of the end panels are beveled and you would be cutting off some or all of that bevel. Not advisable to trim the beveled edge that overlaps the corner panels. Hope this helps.

Asked by: audrey
You don't have to trim it because the corners go in before the center piece.

You actually have to build a support system to install this thing once it's glued in???
Asked by: Dianne
yes. You need to brace with 2" x 2"s or 2" x 4" between 6' and 7' long. I actually used some 1/2" panels I had laying around on both end panels and wedged the braces against those. "seemed" to work well, but not sure how one knows for sure (unless the panel falls off some time -)).

The tube surround is 1/8" thick - not thin like alot of them, making it easy to handle when installing. Went up quick after making the minor cuts because of the tapper of the tub. The only trying part was the installation of the bracing which took time. Make sure you throw the double faced tape away that comes with the kit as it is of no value but to give you grief after reading one of the reviews. (I called the company and they informed me it was just to help when installing the panels to the wall but did not say it had to be used. I did not use it and the panels stayed in place.) I found 2 different set of instructions for the installation of this tube surround, one is 3 pages that uses the double faced tape and the other is approx. 8 pages and not mentioning anything about the tape - use the 8 page instruction. It made a great improvement to the room.

This is my 1st experience installing a 'glue-up' shower surround. Install wasn't too bad, but did require some non-trivial bracing to hold the panels in place while the adhesive dried. If you don't have some lumber and saws to create braces and patience to brace well, I wouldn't recommend this style surround. Also, I don't know how one figures out that the glue and seam caulking were all good. I think you only know that when there's a future failure. The material of this unit seemed fine and I anticipate it will be easy to care for overtime. The look is good (not great) and I think the 'molded-in' soap and shampoo shelves will work fine. I tend took look at items like this based on value; i.e., bang for the buck. At this point, I see this item as a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adhesive wall For the love of god buy a screw in type. The walls themselves are thick and the product more than meets my expectations. But it would have been ten times easier getting a screw in type, and probably cheaper. If adhesive is your only option then rethink it. But it is good quality and it is what it says.

Looks good and the soap dishes are not intruding on my elbow space. And five pieces make it easier to fit into the space. It also was packed well so it fit in my small car hatchback to transport from Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy no hassle install The surround arrived faster than we expected. I was surprised at the weight of it compared to others we had looked at. It went up with no hassle at all and looks great. We're very happy with the results and would recommend it to anyone.

The first product (TUB) was dropped or somehow smashed during shipping, although it was not apparent until opened at home. The damage left cracks and pieces missing on the two front corners. I had to configure molding to cover it once installed. The drop, or whatever your material handlers did with it, also caused on of the support struts underneath break away from the tub base, taking with it a piece of the base where it attaches. I also had to re-configure (engineer ?) that too, so I could install it. Had I not already removed the old tub, and been a week without one - I would have returned it. The other Swan product ; the tub wall surround - is poorly engineered and the simple fact that I was required to search online for a video to get installation instructions is ludicrous. I paid good hard earned American dollars for this junk, and you couldn't even include simple written directions ?? It also does not fit well together - so mass production = poor quality control. I will NOT recommend it to anyone and I will not buy your products again.
