Customer Questions & Answers

how steep of a slope can i cut with this machine?

Asked by: scott
They recommend that mowing across the slope is recommended, rather than up and down. I would say that the steepest section in my yard was about 25 degrees and it as fine going across the slope. Terry A. Lang

Is the drive a chain or belt?

Asked by: dogmeat
Actually both. There is a belt that goes from e engine drive area to the transmission and then chain from transmission to the drive wheel. I hope that helps. Terry

Customer Reviews

22 in. - 6.75 Gross Torque 163cc Gas Self-Propelled Walk-Behind String Trimmer is rated 2.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute bummer Extremely disappointed. The quality seemed good at first glance and I have had 2 craftsman big wheeled weed trimmers so was familiar with and a fan of the Briggs and Stratton engine. It was much heavier than the Craftsman ones, the wheels were bigger which would have been nice and also it had 4 places for the strings as opposed to 2. It was difficult to pull the rope to get it started and once started it ran very rough and was spewing blue exhaust. After 45 seconds, it was still spewing exhaust and started leaking quite a bit of oil all over the deck. Turned it off, loaded it up and took it back for a refund. Oil type and level was correct as well as the gas type. Read other reviews about the lack of quality control with these and apparently it's a valid complaint.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Arrived broken Out-of-the-box, this trimmer had a broken hub on the right wheel. I worked with Swisher to effect repair myself, since they had one authorized repair shop in a 200 mile radius that was backed up for weeks. It is unknown if the failure occurred during manufacturing or shipping. After a few days of nagging, Swisher finally sent me the parts. Now that I have the clutch pressed into the plastic hub, it looks to me like the design strength engineered into the hub is marginal at best. It would be nice of Swisher to give something back for my trouble, since my efforts saved them a lot of expense. I asked. . . they ignored the request. Now that I have it back to factory specs, the trimmer works ok. Overall, it is pretty expensive considering the general quality of the machine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money our time. I have already posted one review on here about this string trimmer after I put it together properly. It was poorly assembled at the factory and I had to work on it right out of the box. Once I got it to work, I tried it on some real weeds. The self propelled quit working after 20 minutes of use, so I just pushed it. Then the engine got to blowing smoke and the string trimmer head fell off. That's when I loaded it up and returned to the store. I strongly suggest that you save yourself some frustration and not buy this piece of junk.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Get your tools out. I purchased on of these Swisher trimmer mowers thinking it was the generic equal of the DR Trimmer Mower. I easily installed the handle and the Briggs & Stratton engine fired on the second pull, it was looking good. I squeezed the handle for the self propelled and the axle just spun inside the wheel hubs. I got the Owners Manual out to troubleshoot. It seems that both wheel hubs have a one direction clutch that engages when going forward and releases when you pull the mower backwards. From the factory, the wheels where on backwards. I swapped them and the self propelled started working. I made two short runs with it and the chain fell off. Now I am back to troubleshooting only to find that the right wheel bearing is not even inside the bearing housing and just sliding around on the axle. Back off with the wheels to remove the axle so that I can properly install the axle bearings. The bearing had to be pressed into the housing so it had to come from the factory like that, not a result of just falling off during shipping. Now that I have properly put the thing together, it seems to work okay now. My experience is that there is a serious quality control problem with the manufacturer and no fault of Home Depot. If you buy one of these, be ready to work on it right out of the box.

Swisher has made the push behind model for year but this was the first that I have seen with the self propelled feature. It works great. As with all string trimmers the string is the weak link but this worked fine. Need to make sure that the drive belt in on the correct spindle. Terry A. Lang
