Customer Questions & Answers

what is the hole size

Asked by: Bear69
Use a 5/32 in. x 4-1/2 in. drill bit for this 3/16 in. x 2-3/4 in. Tapcon anchor. The minimum recommended anchor embedment is 1 in. The hole depth must be a minimum ¼” deeper than the anchor embedment to allow for displaced material

do you have small tapcon

do you have a tapcon smaller than 3/16th? I have a 3/16th, but it's too big for the hole in bracket I need to put up
Asked by: LB
A 3/16" diameter is the smallest diameter available for Tapcon anchors. If possible, open the bracket hole using a 1/4" diameter drill bit to allow clearance for the anchor. Thanks for your inquiry. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rotary hammer drill required These screws work great as long as you have the right tools for the job. A cordless hammer drill will not work for these screws at the 2 3/4 inch length. Save yourself the trouble and buy or rent a corded rotary hammer drill, it will save you a ton of time and make a much cleaner hole. These screws will strip the hole very quickly if you are not careful. Take your time when screwing them in and be careful not to over torque them. DO NOT use a ratcheting drill driver for these screws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Treat very gently I agree with ModernTimercrafts review – you should get a hammer drill – go get a $25 drill from ”that store where you dock your boat” and use the supplied bit. And he’s right these have a very touchy “brake-away point” You can crank down on these and they’ll hold like gang-busters but just a little bit past that and “pop” - strips out and you’ll be drilling a new hole. It took me about 5-6 screws to get the finesse of it then I was off and running. I recommend you DO use an 18V ratcheting drill-driver to drive the screws! Having the clutch is the only way you have some guarantee the screws won’t strip out. For drilling the holes - the other reviewer is right – deeper holes should be left for an industrial hammer-drill. Also the Condrive500 installation tool is a waste for the same reasons – unless your hammer drill has a clutch you’ll strip out every screw. I had a cheap corded hammer drill w/o a clutch so a maybe that’s why it didn’t work right for me. I thought the tube had a torque limiter like torque extensions used for lug-nuts but it doesn’t - I ended up switching off two drills – slower but no striped screws. All in all these are great!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bit is Worthless The included bit lasted for exactly 2 holes before it was too dull to use any more. Save a headache and buy yourself a high quality bit for use with these Tapcons.
