Product Overview

TrafficMASTER Colfax is an exciting addition to the line of laminate flooring. Muted grays with tawny brown and black define the tones, creating a weathered, yet stately look. With the authentic embossed in register finish, Colfax looks and feels like costly reclaimed hardwood. The easy locking system makes this an ideal pick for quick installation, without glue or nails.

Customer Questions & Answers

Is it recommended to put a padding under the trafficmaster colfax laminate flooring?

Asked by: Anonymous
Delayed answer. It is necessary to lay an appropriate underlayment with this product. If it is going on bare concrete or similar surface, it is necessary to use an underlayment and vapor barrier combination.

Is it good for a dining room, hallway, foyer and living room area? And If something spills will it ruin it rite away?

there's 3 children under 13yr old in the apartment.
Asked by: Rubita
Excellent choice but is not pet friendly. Prolonged exposure to spills or moisture can cause swelling of the core material resulting in joint damage and bad appearance. Buy extra material so you can repair areas if this occurs.

Colfax 12 mm Thick x 4-15/16 in. Wide x 50-3/4 in. Length Laminate Flooring (672 sq. ft. / pallet) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful brown/gray tones. Difficult to install. My husband has previously installed several laminate floors with no problem. This TrafficMaster Colfax was very difficult to install because it kept coming apart as he would get several boards down. We finally called a professional who managed to work them together and had the floor down in a couple of days. There is still a very small gap between a few of the boards. Overall, we are very pleased with the beauty of the floor. We wanted a floor without red tones and this has the gray/browns we wanted. The boards seem to be strong- we slid some furniture on it to move it into place and there was no scratching. It also does not seem to show footprints, etc. as some laminates can.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't get it wet Don't let the seams get wet for more than 30 seconds. We had a puppy accident, that we then cleaned up within 5 minutes but the seams swelled. We also had several scratches after a Pyrex dish dropped and shattered. It's really unfortunate this product is such poor quality because it looks so nice. After a year I now have three different places that look bad. I have laminate in another house for over seven years with no issues. Very poor quality!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Balanced Review - I Hope Mainly I am reviewing here to add some context around the installation comments in the other reviews. A bit about me: I am not a professional contractor but I have above average (for a non-pro) skills with wood and home repair projects. Regarding installation: yes, it's a tad difficult to install but I think your head has to be in the right place when you start. If you think that you're going to just drop this stuff down and click it in and be done in a couple of hours, well, get that thought out of your head. It simply doesn't work like that. I installed 250 square feet in a foyer with seven door frames. Tricky business with all the notching and cutting. But it's done. Here's what you need to expect: (1) it takes a little practice getting the boards to snap together just right the whole length of the board. You will not get it right the first time every time until you're some way into your project. That's OK. Just be ready for it and go slowly in the beginning. You'll pick up speed as you move along and get a feel for how to snap them. And if two boards aren't sitting right keep at them until they do. Do not fudge it. I repeat - do not fudge it. The next row of boards will not correct the prior row. The opposite happens - the "bad" row makes all the following rows bad. See next comment for a great tip. (2) Sometimes you can't actually get the boards to snap perfectly into place right at the end joint of the prior board. I don't know why. But it doesn't matter. Move the board you are installing up the line a little bit from the installed board until you can get it to snap all the way in. Then take a block and a hammer and gently tap the end of the board until the other end seam is closed. And when you do this try to remember to check the abutting end before you make the last couple of taps to ensure that the end joints don't bash into each other. One should slot over the other one. (3) It helps to have a second person around when snapping in some boards. If you get one end of a board snapped in you can have someone (I had my 7 year old son do it) stand on the locked in end and then snap in the rest of the board. That assures a solid, tight seam. Then tap into position per my prior note. (4) Expect sore hands. It takes some gripping to get the boards into place. No big deal. You're hands will be fine in a day. Just a little sore. (5) Expect a fair amount of waste. The boards have tongue and grooves on each end. Once you cut a board you theoretically can only use it at one end or another of the row (where it abuts the wall). I did one seam without the end tongue/groove because I had no other good option. It worked but it's in a tiny corner not likely to take any foot traffic. I imagine you could just abut the ends w/o the tongue and groove but I elected not to. The floor "floats". The more tongue and grooves the better. (6) You can install over a not-perfectly-flat floor. The flatter the better, though. My floor has some slight undulations to it (old house). The floor settled down over those undulations very well but if you look at the floor from afar in the right light and down the long lines you can discern the undulations as they show up as slight variations in the "straight" lines. Not a big deal - I have nail down wood floors with the same issue. But wanted to toss it out there. Finally, re your tools: cut the board finish side down on your table saw; finish side up on your mitre saw, finish side up with your jig saw. In summary, I had a complicated installation with many cuts and notches but each and every one of my seams is dead on tight per manufacturer's specs. So don't settle for spaces. You'll regret it later. You can do it yourself. As with all such projects the key is planning, preparation (don't forget your padding!), the rights tools (table saw, mitre saw, jig saw are the main things you want to have), and patience. Patience and persistence.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great budget-conscious flooring option We looked at a ton of floors and considered several different options, and ended up going w/ the colfax and have been very pleased so far. They look great, and we've had em in for a few weeks and they seem to be holding up well so far. I was concerned over some of the reviews I read about difficult installation and frankly I'm not sure what to make of them now in retrospect. Maybe they got a bad batch, or it was user error, but mine went in fine. As long as you angle it property into the tongue groove, they really do click together pretty easily. You'll definitely want to get a feel for it when you first start clicking them together, like I said, angle it when inserting and then apply some pressure as you lay it down to the floor and you should hear/feel them clicking together. Not a hard installation though. Great floors, good thickness, great look, and seem to be durable and well made at least according to my initial impressions. Great price considering the appearance of quality they present.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected, Pictures don't do it justice So I picked this flooring from the online picture without seeing it in person. I was ordering if for our rental condo that is 2.5 hours away from us so we wanted flooring that was in stock at the store in that city. Since it's for a rental I wasn't too picky but wanted a more medium to dark wood color. I'm not a fan of reddish undertones some wood finishes have and was pleasantly surprised with the grey undertones you can't seem to capture in pictures (looks darker than it is in the pictures). I had it professionally installed so can't really comment on the ease personally but the professionals did 800 sq feet in a day (arrived at 9:30 am and finished around 4 pm). They used underlayment and moisture barrier and it turned out great. Feels like wood floors, looks amazing, and has that solid feel when you walk. Not that hollow feeling/sound that some laminates can sometimes have. I fell in love with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than hardwood! I have had several different hardwood floors over the years and turned my head to laminate flooring in the passed. I wish I had used this flooring from the very beginning. We have two dogs and regular 3/4 hardwood floor gets destroyed by the claws of the dogs, those problems are long gone with this flooring. The dogs practically run in place on the floor and not a scratch. Its absolutely amazing how well these floors are made and for half the price of hardwood floor. There are times when I see the dogs slide from one end of the room to the other and I drop to the floor thinking the floor was definitely scratched and there was nothing, no damage whatsoever. This is by far the best flooring we have purchased. I have a new found respect for laminate flooring. You will not be disappointed especially if you have animals in your home. If you are doubtful try this.... I ran a test before I made my big purchase and here it is. I bought 1 box of the flooring and assembled it in front of my front door. I would then throw a ball to the dogs making sure they scratched there paws all over the assembled section, I did this for about a week. the floor was perfect. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful flooring. I'm very pleased with the look of this flooring it's beautiful. The best part is that i have a 8months old baby girl and she runs inside her walker and theirs not 1 scratch in the floor. I only have 1 week with this floor so lets see how it holds on to my expectations. Lots of compliments from friends and family. I'm a happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very affordable, very luxurious... I was skeptical as anyone would be because the color is not light and it's not dark. So I thought it would be difficult to match. Not at all, this was by far, affordable and great quality at 12mm! I would highly recommend and hope to share photos soon.
