Answer:
It is designed to spray wall/ceiling texture. Even when the texture is mixed to a thin consistency the compound still sprays lumpy and inconsistent. Paint would be similar in fashion.

I used this to do four rooms (about 400 sq. ft.). It can do popsorn, knockdown (you'll need the knockdown tool, separely), or orange peel. I did a light orange peel. It has a table to aid in doing each. To control it there are three nozzles, instructions on amount of thinning (estimates), and how much trigger depress.

This is only a texture sprayer. You'd need a spray gun (Wagner makes one as well) to spray paint.

Can the sprayer be used for a paint that has an aggregate added for texture?

I am trying to find a paint sprayer that I can spray a paint that has an added aggregate to texture the paint but not adding too much thickness as with the textured materials. Basically I wish to use an off the shelf enamel paint and then add an aggregate for texture and spray them onto my substrate. Can anyone help me find what I am looking for?

Answer:
No, the air pressure is far too low and would not spread evenly. Even with the smaller tip it would still be to large and cause lumps in the paint.

Answer:
The Power Tex is meant for use with aggregated materials such as simulated acoustic (“popcorn”) and unaggregated materials such as diluted joint compound for knockdown and orange peel. The application you are describing sounds like something that should be done with a contractor machine. For advice on which one might work, please call 1-800-292-4637.

Answer:
If you are planning on using this to spay stucco material out of this tool, I would not recommend it. The flow control mechanism is a rubberized flow control valve. The stucco material would be too rough and damage or prematurely wear the flow control valve. I would stick with what the tool description recommends; basic indoor wall texture material including some acoustics.

Answer:
We would not recommend the Wagner Texture Sprayer to be used to spray stucco. A larger contractor grade machine would be more appropriate.

Answer:
Typically the Power Tex is used with thinned drywall compound to create a moderate to delicate texture on walls. Acrylics are more of a thick paint with an aggregate added and therefore are not suggested for use with the Power Tex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT TOOL!! THANKS WAGNER!! ... GREAT TOOL!! THANKS WAGNER!! I am in the process of updating my home. Part of the update includes removing all the popcorn ceilings. Although I consider myself an above average DYI type person, I had never done knockdown before. After paying someone to do the knockdown for me on a couple of rooms, that I had already scraped clean and done the other prep work on, I felt I could probably do it myself, saving myself a lot of dollars in labor costs. I really didn't want to fool with the whole compressor, hopper, and hoses setup and was pleased to come accross this nice little texture sprayer from Wagner while researching the whole knockdown thing. I'll admit... was a bit aprehensive after reading the mixed reviews, but figured for the price, it was worth a shot. And if it worked, I would save hundreds over and above my original investment. I have to say, I was very pleasently surprised. It worked great! I did buy the dry texture mix in a bag rather than thining down the premixed mud as some people had suggested. Mixed it up to be about like thin pancake batter. I used the medium tip and it turned out just great. Although, on my next room I plan on trying the large tip for just a bit more texture. I did do as one of the other reviews suggested and cleaned the unit while waiting for the spray to dry enough to drag the knife over it. Timing wise... this seemed to be just about perfect. It took me just about ten minutes (maybe a shake more) to clean the sprayer and was very simple to do. This, I think, kept my mind occupied instead of standing around waiting for it to dry, and possibly getting in a hurry and trying to knock it down too early. I would recommend this unit to anyone who has basic DYI skills. Very happy with the $100 cost, the ease of use, and easy clean up. Oh, and the wife was very pleased with the results also... even a bigger plus!! She says she can't tell the differance between the room I did verses the one we paid a pro to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the job!! I have never done a wall with knock down texture. Needed to finish out a garage with Sheetrock finishing that was not very good. Used this product to texture the walls and ceiling and it worked perfectly. Very easy clean up as well! Will definitely recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time saver Saved me lots of time, finished a six hour job in 2 hours including cleanup . Not going to lie I read lots of reviews on this before buying. After spraying the texture I let it dry for about 30 mins then used a knock down knife to make it look flat and smooth

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for small jobs! I bought the texture sprayer to finish the sheetrock in a two-car garage. It isn't powerful enough to use the ready mix texture material out of the container, but when I cut it with about 1/3 water to 2/3 mud it worked very well. The one-gallon hopper is easy to load and works well for walls. I found a full hopper was large enough to cover about 80 square feet with a medium knock-down (yellow tip). It is a bit awkward for ceilings since the hopper cannot be positioned in a truly efficient manner. For small jobs it is way better than the canned texture sprays. The noise level was very reasonable and clean up was easy.
