Answer:
Yes but who in their right mind would use chemicals to ruin the flavor of the food they are cooking? I use a chimney to light mine. I fill it with charcoal and set it on top of the gas lighter for about five min. then turn the gas off and wait about 15 to 20 min for the coals to be ready. NEVER USE CHEMICALS!

My husband has. The One Touch Option takes a little longer to get going, so he has used lighter fluid when we were in a hurry. It's the same grill, so I don't see any reason not to.

But, food does taste with a bit of lighter-fluid when using matchlight charcoals. I just bought regular charcoal that will take 20 minutes to heat up. So I'm curious as to the difference it makes in the flavor of food. So I'm assuming that if you run out of the butane in the canister and try to light your charcoal with regular lighter fluid, then your food will have a strong taste of lighter fluid. So I'm stocking up on the butane type canisters. Read Less

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Yes, you could always start the grill manually with lighter fluid, but Weber suggests using our Fire Starter Cubes (part 7417) . They ignite the coals very quickly and have no smell or taste. They are also safe to store. If you have any other questions, please contact Weber Customer Service at 1-800-446-1071.

Well you could transport it since it has two wheels, but I believe it is meant to be used in your backyard where you could move it around if needed. Buy a smaller grill if you need to put in in the back of an SUV.

Answer:
I don't know what they mean but if you get the heat up to over 500 degrees (which is easy) it would work like a self cleaning oven. The ash cleans easily into a pan at the bottom of the grill for easy dumping.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 53 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Weber Performer - A Real Grilling Experience I received The Performer as a Father's Day Gift. It is truly a great grill. Assembly is quite simple (with pictures) and can be done by 1 person, though I had assistance. Above all this is a CHARCOAL GRILL. Old School Its also a very handsome grilling appliance. A Real Man's grill. It has a spacious grilling surface and gets real hot. (a temperature guage lets you know how quickly your grill is heating up). It has excellent features (electronic/gas iginition, Charcoal bunker, E-Z disposal of ashes, sliding lid, and a food prep surface. Food cooks quickly. I especially like the 2 charcoal bins which allow for direct or indirect heat. It also allows for easy replenishing of charcoal. I've had many Father's Day's gifts (I've celebrated 24 Father's Day's) This ranks as one of THE BEST! See the picture of my assembled grill. June 30, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product has great features that other charcoal grills do not have. The Weber touch-n-go grill does ignite the charcoal quickly with the touch of a button. And your food does not taste of propane. It cooks food perfectly. No more chimney starters. Easy to assemble. A nice feature is that it has a lid holder and comes with the side table which is very durable. The charcoal bin keeps charcoal close at hand and keeps the charcoal dry. This grill is easy to maneuver even though it is a bit heavy due to the outstanding quality of this grill. This has been the best Weber charcoal grill that I have purchased. You will not go wrong with this grill, and if you can get it on sale thats even better. And dont forget to purchase the grill cover. June 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perform it does!!! I bought this grill for my fiance and he LOVES IT! It was a great buy. At first I thought it was a bit expensive but all the things it says it can do it does and well. My favorite is the ... well lets face it I love everything about it. The table is just the right size to hold your raw and cooked items in their separate bowls. Like that the lid slides to the side instead of having to find a place on the floor to put it. We have this on our balcony and it doesn't take up all our space not to mention since it has an ash catcher there is no mess to worry about. Love the color options as well as the coal holder and the shelf below. Can't say enough good things about this grill. December 13, 2009
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best grill on the market I've tried several expensive grills and even bought the big green egg but none of them compare to this guy. You can cook low and slow with ease of temp settings. You can even get a smoker kit and turn this thing into a great smoker too. I love this thing but if there was anything I would change it would be the grill grate that holds the coals. It warps with the extreme heat and some of the charcoal falls through. The other thing is the handle could be better insulated so use gloves. Best tasting food ever. I use my egg for keeping food warm if I have a party otherwise it is a decoration I paid too much for. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My 2nd Weber Performer Found out after leaving my 1st Weber behind(divorce): there is NO substitute! There is so much to love about this grill, besides the fact that it's a Weber. You can't beat the convenience of having a work table, charcoal bin, storage rack and the electric ignition (no ore smelly charcoal fluid!!!), and the ash bin. Just a neater cleaner charcoal grill. Then, on top of that? when you are doing real BBQ, the folding grill rack makes adding more wood or charcoal such an easy task. I'm female and adamant about the pro's of charcoal vs. gas. For a great end result for your food, go Weber! April 3, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Grill I have had this grill for about three weeks. It is great to cook on. The ability to light the charcoal w/o lighter fluid is great. I also like the ability to store the charcoal in the side container that is part of the grill. Assemby of the grill was very stright forward. It took a couple of hours I believe. I had a defect in the paint job on the lower bowl of the grill. Weber customer service actually sent me a replacement that arrived on the Saturday before the 4th of July. I'd suggest inspecting the parts before assembly of the grill. It was good to see how Weber stood behind the product. July 10, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic BBQ We have had this BBQ for about two months now and have used it for everything. We have been converted. If you love charcoal grilling it is the creme de la creme. The ignition system is the greatest, no more having to burn so long to let the lighter fluid burn off. The size is perfect for in direct grilling and easy clean up with the bottom release. The thermometer is accurate and the system is easy to maintain a temperature. The top vents as well as the bottom vents work together to maintain. It is sturdy and the wheels work great on the deck as well as the grass. The storage bin is so handy for the charcoal and has never had any water get inside. My husband and I both say it is worth the money if you can afford it and appreciate a good BBQ. August 13, 2010
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Grill I ordered this grill from the store on 7/2/12 We received the grill from factory with the lid was damaged, it seemed to have set against something extremely hot at factory to melt the lid like it did. I called the 1-800# almost two weeks ago for a new lid and still have not received it yet. I am sure it is in route, or atleast I hope so. (ref#412428). There was another part cracked on the grill but my husband said he can get past that since we put it together and then noticed the damages. I am just dissapointed in the cost versus the product. And still have yet to use it. July 24, 2012
