Product Overview

This Whynter Dual Zone Portable Fridge / Freezer offers premium quality and innovative design to your frozen/ refrigerated needs. With two separately controlled temperature zones, you can set either zone as a freezer and the other as a refrigerator or at any temperature for your specific requirements. All you need is either a standard household 110-Volt outlet or a 12-Volt power source, like an automotive battery. The internal LED lights also allow for easier, more convenient access in low-light conditions. Whether on a day trip or major expedition, you can easily keep your food and beverages chilled, or frozen with this benchtop freezer. The Whynter portable freezers should not to be confused with less effective 12-Volt novelty and beverage type "coolers", the Whynter portable freezer fridge is a true freezer/refrigerator which cools between -8°F to 50°F. A cost effective and mobile solution for your recreational and critical freezing requirements.

Plugged it into AC in the house and it cooled down in a reasonable amount of time. Loaded it up, plugged into the back DC outlet on my Jeep and off we went. Worked great...... for 3 days and then suddenly stopped working on DC power and would only work on AC. That doesn't help much when dry camping with no AC available. Contacted the manufacturer and they provided some inane troubleshooting advice, none of which worked of course. I used a voltage meter to check and DC was getting to the fridge, but it wouldn't function. SO, I ended up having to buy ice for the rest of the week and of course the frozen stuff didn't stay frozen long. I just returned it for a refund and I'll move on to another brand.

April 22, 2017: I just returned from a week long trip to Death Valley with the Whynter FM-62DZ. I am very pleased with this Refrigerator/Freezer overall. I slept in our VW Vanagon, with the unit at my feet; it was quiet when running and never disturbed my sleep. I had the larger compartment set to 42 degrees for fruit, vegetables, and cold-cuts of meat; all remained cold and fresh. The smaller compartment kept ice cream frozen, set to 15 degrees. The interior lights in the unit are great! The FM-62DZ was subjected to some mild off-roading conditions, and didn't have any problems with the bouncing and vibration. I had a combination of solar panels and auxiliary battery so I was not running it of of the van's starter battery. My primary dislike for the unit was lack of any provision to anchor it to the floor, other than the carrying handles. Other brands of portable refrigerators (such as the much more expensive ARB or Engel) have specifically designed threaded holes in the base for mounting. I removed the feet of the FM-62DZ, and fabricated mounting brackets for it to mount to a plywood plate anchored to the van's floor. Also, I fabricated an insulated pad for the top of the unit, to keep more of the cold in, and to male the top more comfortable for sitting. My rating would of been 5 stars, if better mounting options were provided; I'm going to say 4.5 stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two weeks in and good Picked up the unit about two weeks ago, dropped it into my small truck camper and have been running on solar and land lines solid since then. Seems to work well. I think it could use some additional insulation to make it more efficient but if does a nice job. Especially like the fact that the two compartments can be run at separate temps and that it drops strait to AC when you plug into the land line. If the compressor lasts it's a steal compared to Engels. I have been told that there is really only one compressor manufacturer for all of these types of coolers but no idea if it is true. Great not to have melting ice to deal with any longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great It's holding up just fine on the top bunk going down the road. I keep it plugged into the converter with the DC plugged in as a backup when making coffee. It keeps my ice cream frozen and the rest of the food cold unlike the refrigerator installed on the truck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Where have these been all my life! Just got back from a three week road trip with the Whynter FM-62DZ and I am very pleased with it. Kept ice cream and ice frozen the whole time, even with the battery saver cut out shutting it off in the middle of the night. I set this to the middle setting and bought a battery booster just in case, but never needed it. Granted we were in Canada and not Arizona, but if you're traveling all day and get an early start or have access to AC at night you'll be golden. I'll never go back to coolers again.
