Answer:
Yes it will definitely make your gate "hot." It's not wireless, you need a ground rod - copper is the best, run your wire from the ground rod to the connection on the charger that says "ground" then you need to run a wire from the gate to the connection on the charger that says "fence" and turn on the unit. If you just need your gate charged you could get away with a less powerful charger than this one Read More

Answer:
This energizer is designed to power electric fence wire, either aluminum, steel or poly. It would not be suitable to power a solid gate. The unit runs on a rechargeable battery and does not need to be plugged into an outlet. Kelly, Zareba Consumer Relations

Two questions as to Joules and animals controlled

This question is from 10 Mile Low Impedance Solar Fencer

It appears this has less Joules output .15 versus others at .5 or even 1 yet it controls bulls and the others don't seems backwards in that less output but more control of large animals?

Related to this if it controls large animals, why does it show it doesn't control, the x's on the package, dogs, chicken, and other smaller animals?

Answer:
This energizer can be used to contain dog. We would not recommend connecting the unit directly to chain link. Please contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-5-ZAREBA (1-855-592-7322) for setup assistance.

Im about to set up this fencing to keep out the pests and keep my big escape artist dogs in (they have very thick coats and have very high pain tolerances) but I want to make sure my small short-coated 15 pound dog is safe. I doubt he will ever come in contact wit it as he's an indoor dog but i just want to be sure just in case.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far it's great I haven't had mine a great long time, but it keeps cows that we're getting out to stay in. Only took one encounter and that was it. Like it so much I bought a second one for our other property. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Unit may work on frogs Have had one of these chargers for a couple of years. For the money...better to buy a good BB gun. We raise goats, also have Golden Retrievers. this charger has no meaning to any of them...unless they lick it ! Running roughly 1/2 miles of fence, have 8 ground rods with two line's dedicated to just ground by the total length of fence...that would be 2 strands at primary level of contact plus ground wire above and below the 2 hot wires. Fence wire...14ga. steel...new this year as well. The actual ground itself is not dry...3 feet down your in very wet conditions...not gonna get any better then that ! From what we have dealt with...minimum 2 joules would possibly be enough, will know in a couple of weeks as are putting in just that. Just saying... May 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An Awesome Charger This is the second Zareba solar charger I've purchased in 20 years! The one I replaced was very dependable & taught my horses to respect the fence (I've been shocked a few times in the last 20 years & it doesn't feel too good - lol). I had to replace the solar battery once, the only reason I had to replace the charger is because the fence post it was mounted on rotted (I didn't notice till it was too late), & fell during high winds breaking the solar panel; otherwise I'd still be using it! To those new to using a SOLAR charger - it is powered by the SUN people! I don't know why anyone would use a car charger & frankly I don't see how you could even hook it up to one! I just got this new one today but I'm sure it'll be as good as the last one just got to let it charge IN THE SUN for a couple of days. Thankfully the horses don't realize yet the fence is off - ha ha. Hope this helps anyone who's worried about spending the $ - it's worth every penny! August 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It actually works! Easily installed about a month ago and working perfectly. I ran a five strand fence around my backyard, flower gardens, vegetable garden and orchard and have been using a marine battery to electrify my fence. ( about 200 yes by 5 strands = 1000 yes ) . I charged the solar battery for 2 days then activated fence. It has been purring along since then. No more manhandling a heavy marine battery I hope. The solar battery seems to keep an adequate charge even through some relatively cloudy days. A young deer stuck his nose on the fence a couple of evenings ago and leaped up and back about 10 feet. I doubt he will try it again. Thank you! September 21, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK but... The unit came in a sealed plastic box. The instructions enclosed were for the AC unit and had no instructions for the solar version. The unit itself stated the battery must be charged befor use so I pluged it into my auto charger overnight. Meanwhile I looked online for a manual and found one which stated that using an auto charger will damage the battery. Thanks, guys. We'll see how long the battery lasts. March 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works fine I now own three of these chargers and have been using two of them since April. So far they produce good, consistent power. I am attaching them to polywire with step in posts. They are each charging a half-mile. The horses and cows are very respectful. I do wish they came with connectors as other chargers do. I really had to improvise when I got the first two and found no connectors included. September 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Charger Both my third fence charger about a month ago, best chargers on the market. July 28, 2015
