    by|Jul 24, 2020

A:  Adubs, Thank you for this great question. The fact that these Screws are made of Hardened Steel to ensure a sharp point when screwing into Steel Studs makes them less than desirable for hanging Cabinets. Hardened Steel, when under stress, could crack or snap (from great weight). Also, the bugle head of this type screw is less than desirable as it could lend to the Screw Head being pulled through the Cabinet under stress. A better choice would be what's called a "Cabinet Screw". Cabinet Screws have an oversize Truss Head and they are made of Mild Steel, which would be more likely to bend without giving way all at once. This Manufacturer (Grip-Rite) has a 2 3/8" Cabinet Screw available at Home Depot. Home Depot also has other brands of Cabinet Screws in other Lengths and Sizes. I hope this helps. Sincerely, heatman5

            Answer This Question

A:  Not a good idea. They will eventually work loose in the drywall. They are made to pass through the drywall into wood studs behind.

A:  No, since most homes have drywall, they will have very minimal holding power. Mike

A:  You "can", but if you use them on drywall they will get loose over time, they need to be screwed in a hard and solid surface

A:  You can if you are not trying to support a lot of weight and you are screwing into a stud. If you are just using it in drywall, you need anchors.

Q:What screw is recommended for flooring and how many screws come in a 5 lb box

                  Answer This Question

A:  Really depends on the materials your are using to determine the type of fasteners. There are approximately 1000 6 x 1 5/8 screws in a 5# box

                  by|Oct 10, 2022
                    1 found this answer helpful

A:  Woodie, the screw in question is a drywall screw as you are probably aware. If the flooring you are wanting to use this screw on is exposed to the elements or water, this in probably the wrong screw. You will want to use a zinc type coated screw to resist deteriation. As far as how many screws are in a 5lb box, what I found on line was about 150 screws make up 1lb so at 5 lbs there would be around 750 screws.

A:  SPAX OR GRK - THEY DO NOT NEED PRE DRILLING THE TIP CUTS AS IT DRILLS- WATCH THE TIP HEAD ! YOU'LL NEED THE TORX STYLE BIT. THESE ARE FOR USE IN ALL WOOD APPLICATIONS. DRYWALL SCREWS ARE MADE TO WORK WELL IN DRYWALL ONLY. ITS A COMMON PROBLEM/ MISUSE. THE DRYWALLS WILL SNAP OR STRIP. DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR GET THE RIGHT ONES.

A:  WE will update our photo - but yes, the threads do go all the way the head of the screw.

A:  The screws are as pictured. Threads are more than half the length but do not go all the way to the head. the course thread pattern provides superior gripping and easier drive ability. If the thread pattern went all the way to the head it would cause the screw to go completely through things such as sheetrock and possibly wood stock causing chipping and splitting. Hope this helps.
