However it is vital that you use mesh tape and the cover the entire area with Red Guard water proofing.  As an alternative, you could use Schluter Kerdi mat following the directions to waterproof the plastered blue board and then tile right over it. It will be thinner and not noticeable when done. It will also be waterproof, if you follow the instructions. 

A:  Yes , it can be done. Just add the thickness of the drywall to the fastener length and make sure to attach it to framing

A:  Get a hardie blade and use a hand grinder. That’s what the guys that installed the hardie did. I just bought the hardie.

A:  You can use a carbide tipped scoring knife. Do 2 or 3 scores and pull it towards the cut

A:  There is no paper cover on the backer.

A:  Yes, it can be installed over sheet rock. You do not need thin set behind it. • Minimum 1-3/4-inch-long No. 8 x 0.375 in HD self-drilling corrosion resistant ribbed waferhead screw

A:  The 1/2-inch work better for walls but technically either can be used but the 1/4-inch would require blocking on the seams.

A:  Hi there, thank you for writing in. Our product cannot go directly to concrete. We require joists spaced no more than 24" on center with 5/8" exterior grade plywood.

A:  Generally, yes but you need to check with the manufacturer of the tile to see if they have additional requirement going over a fiber-cement backer board.

A:  Not well at all if it's plain cement board. You would have to paint it with a primer first.

A:  Best to check with the manufacturer of the peel and stick tile.

A:  I would thin set the Hardie backer on the brick. Or just grout set the tile over the brick.
