Failed the Lab inspection
Boards were cut out of square and had as much of 11/32” variation. The imprinted nailing pattern and grid varied by over an inch from board to board. Poor quality control.

    Unlike brittle boards
Has an excellent bendable character to it, easy to score, easy to bend and separate after the score, great to handle, easy to screw, clean edges for great fit. I favor a dry fit first, then label each one, set aside, lay the thin set for one, secure the one, thin set for two, and so on. I have used other backer boards, but this works the best.

Used this on top of the sub floor before putting down tile. The grids make it easy to cut accurately and also help installers with nail placements. It is much easier to handle than other brands which require 2 people to carry to avoid breakage.

These are excellent backer boards. I used the mark where you can screw them to the ground. You don’t need that many screws. 4-6 in right areas would be perfect. Installed Ceramic tiles.

Tough, but brittle as expected. While the HD employee was loading it onto my truck, he lifted the first sheet by one end, bracing it on his knee. Suction caused by the end he was not lifting against the sheet below caused the sheet to snap in half. HD replaced it, but it demonstrates how brittle this stuff is, do not underestimate that. However, it was easy to work with once we got it home.

Completed install of 30 sheets in kitchen , hallway, install went well cut board with utility blade worked very well. The most effort is installing all the screws that takes time but the pattern on board very helpful. The older you get the knees get the best of you so take your time an get them into the board so there countersunk a bit. Used a Dewalt drill in handle the torque required to install screws. I would recommend product for floor tile install.

Good product! I used their screws but they are hard to get started into material. Great once they take hold. Product is difficult to cut. I figured out to cut it on the backside with a knife as for some reason it breaks easier. I would definitely use again. The other brand is more like a rock and crumbles when cut.

HardieBacker is the product of choice for all of our tile installs. It goes not more easily and does not shatter like other products. We use it on floors and walls alike. The only negative is that using the factory designated screw slots around the edge will often cause the material to crack so we hold off the edges a little more. Otherwise we use the screw pattern recommended by the manufacturer. We also always install the material with a layer of thinset underneath to create a level underlayment with a tighter bond to the subfloor.

I've been using this for years and have never had a problem. The manufacturer warns of dust. They tell you to only snap it, which is ridiculous. Half of the time I do, it shatters the piece. But on top of that, what do you do for shower heads, electrical outlets etc? I saw it to size with a diamond blade and cut holes with a carbide blade on my saber saw. You should wear a dust mask when doing this, but it works well in both wet and dry situations. Drill the screw holes with carbide bits. Regular steel bits will dull after one or two holes. I use a minimum number of screws to hold it in place and apply liquid nails or an equivalent adhesive along the studs. Also, the grid is nice but be very careful with it. On about half of the sheets, it is slightly crooked and if you use it to align the tiles, they will not be straight.
