Questions and Answers for Kwikset Balboa Polished Chrome Privacy Door Handle with Lock for Bedroom or Bathroom

A:  Color is as shown in photo. Ours are not showing any sign of wear. It’s just the two of us with occasional visitors. They look great We’re very happy with this purchase.

A:  I believe it is considered oil rubbed bronze. I have had mine for roughly two years and have not experienced any fading. They are very will made.

A:  Yep, I would consider this as oil rubbed bronze, and after 3 years of use, I haven't noticed any color fade as of yet.

A:  Yes, it matches oil rubbed bronze. I installed in all my interior doors 3 years ago, no rubbing off yet.

A:  I have had this in my home for over 5 years and it looks like it did when it came out of the box.

A:  No, you have to unlock it before you can turn the knob to open the door.

A:  This privacy lock is not a free interior lever. From the interior side of the lock, the turn piece must be manually turned to lock and unlock it.

A:  You have to unlock it before you can turn the handle.

A:  You have to unlock the door first.

A:  If you have regular doors that have the door nob that have the turn like for privacy. The Kwikset brand all have the locking figures. Now if you are concerned about getting to the room; the lock comes with a tool to unlock from the outside of the door. I am not aware of a privacy lock that is able to be opened without turning the interior locked having to move into the open position before the door will open.

A:  I was going to ask this question, but CT already did. Many consumers assume buying products in “large quantities or in multiple packages” is less expensive than buying a "single item" or “smaller quantities/smaller packages.” I made a decision years ago to make it my responsibility to find the least expensive way to buy products by using basic math (and my smartphone). I was surprised to find that buying products in “large quantities or in multiple packages” was not consistently less expensive. The objective of my answer is to share what I have learned with other consumers so they can start saving money sooner by: 1) realizing advertisements are intended to get consumers' attention by being flashy and may also be confusing, and 2) consumers can use basic math (pen and paper, calculator, smart phone) to find out the least expensive way to buy products instead of relying on manufacturers, advertisements, or their own assumptions. As of today, June 20, 2020, a Kwikset representative has not responded to CT’s March 2020 question. Due to this lack of response, I have no choice but to believe the door levers are identical. Conclusion: It is the consumer's responsibilty to find out the least expensive way to buy products and should not depend on others (manufacturers, advertisers, etc.). It is not consistently less expensive to buy products in “large quantities or in multiple packages.” Consumers must use basic math to find out the least expensive way to buy products (single item, smaller quantities/smaller packages, large quantities/multiple packages). A:  I would suggest you talk to HomeDepot Locks department. They may have a phone number to contact Kwikset to get the screw you need.

A:  I was suggest you contact Kwikset to see if you can get a matching screw. Or take the screw you have into HomeDepot or any hardware store. You might want to check with a lock smith to see if they have a matching screw.

A:  Dennis, I installed mine on a 1.25 door. Fit fine.

A:  No sure. My door is 1 3/8". I would think 1/8" less would not make a difference. There seemed to be enough depth in the handle to allow for an additional 1/8" stem.

A:  If you look at the specs listed on HomeDepots website it will tell you the thickness of the door.

A:  According to the specifications the requirements are for: Minimum door thickness (in.) 1.375. If you have a door that is 1.25 inches; I would recommend a different lever. Your local Home Depot Door Knobs sections should be able make better suggestion to substitute out for this specific item.
