A:  Yes you can use this on wood, I would recommend if it old wood or painted wood to sand the surface with a 60 to 80 grit sandpaper or if a virgin piece or old of wood (after sanding) just clean it off with some mineral spirits acetone or alcohol and then wipe it with a tack cloth.

Q:Can this be used on drywall? Wood trim? Is it cleanable?

    Answer This Question

A:  I’ve used Rust-Oleum white gloss on my wood trim, first you should sand the trim down with 80 or 60 grit sandpaper. Make sure the surface is cleaned before you apply the paint. Get for high traffic areas, and I have proof because I have 7 children to prove it.

A:  Thank you for reaching out! While a water-based, latex primer and paint is a better choice for this type of application, our Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Flat White Protective Enamel may be used as long as the surfaces have been primed first. Since this finish is flat, it will not clean as easily as a satin, semi-glos,or gloss finish, however, it is still a cleanable finish. We recommend priming using our Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer prior to painting: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-Gal-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2001/100398391 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

A:  Thank you for reaching out! Our Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel may be applied directly to bare metal surfaces. For the best adhesion, performance, and rust protection, we recommend priming the surface first using our Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Stops-Rust-1-qt-Flat-White-Clean-Metal-Primer-7780502/100126115 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

        Answer This Question

A:  Glad to help out, Patricia. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Paint, along with other pre-colored Rust-Oleum paints, is not formulated to be tinted. The addition of colorant to these can affect product coverage, drying, and performance. If looking for a custom color, colors from the same line can be mixed together. We recommend mixing enough color for your project all at the same time to ensure an even color throughout. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

A:  Glad to help out, Matt! We don't recommend using Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Paint on a tub because it will not hold up to the abrasiveness to water immersion and will peel off. Instead, we recommend using the Rust-Oleum Specialty Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit, which is excellent for this type of application. https://www.homedepot.com/s/rustoleum%20tub%20and%20tile%20refinishing%20kit?NCNI-5 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

A:  You've come to the right place, Janet! Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel can work on fiberglass. We recommend sanding the surface with 180/220 grit sandpaper prior to the application. You'll want to also make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying the product.

                  Answer This Question

A:  Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel will not adhere to plastic or vinyl surfaces unless a primer is applied first. We recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer for this application. Once the surface is primed, it may be painted after only one hour with the Protective Enamel. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-1-qt-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-Case-of-6-2004/202058886
