Q:The specifications state that this is not rated for in wall use. Is that accurate or is it meaning that it is not plenum cable i.e. not rated for use in air ducts? Why would this not be acceptable to run this through insulation along studs?

Answer This Question

A:  I think it depends on the electrical conditions of the particular use of the cable. For normal television use where the cable does not provide power to a device at the other end, only carrying the RF signal at typical network power levels, it should not be a problem to run the cable inside a wall. For applications where the cable carries significant amounts of power to operate equipment, then it should not be used in a wall, especially one that has insulation. This is my engineering opinion based on the power levels involved.

A:  No, it is copper clad steel, that is the 'ccs' in the description, i ordered it thinking it was solid copper as per the other comment, it is not.

          Answer This Question

A:  It is not recommended. This style of RG-6 will fail sooner if exposed to constant water as is likely to be present in underground conduit. Order 58125803 (100ft) or 920710608 (1000ft) for use in underground conduits. These have polyethylene jacket and other features for that installation condition. Conversely, these should not be used in doors for extended runs.

              Q:Is this cable DirecTV approved?

              Answer This Question

A:  Here is the REAL answer. Yes, it will work on CERTAIN satellite systems, and no it is not Directv Approved. Here is why it will work on some systems. If you have a SWM (single wire multiswitch) system, the only line, or 2 that SHOULD be solid copper is the Genie or the line with the 21v Power Inserter. The reason why I say Genie is because the new HR54 models have a built in 21v power inserter. The voltage required to power the LNB on the dish is carried thru the center of the cable. Copper has less resistance than steel. The mini clients do not send of receive voltage, only signal, which is carried on the outer edge of the cable. Copper clad steel cable works JUST AS GOOD for the minis on a SWM system. Your older high def systems with 4 cables coming down from the dish, those lines should all be solid copper as each box transmits voltage. That is the REAL answer, been doing this a long time

A:  I have direct tv since 2004 .. believe me only use the solid copper core rg6 cable. also frequency swept to 3 GHZ.. yes I did use the cable company steel wire on the center conductor that has a copper plating on it .. the signal was low.. what that means is when the heavy clouds/rain /snow comes you get a signal loss which if you do not know means no picture. since I have changed to the solid copper core and 3 GHZ frequency swept cables my signals are now 95-100%.. home depot should carry the solid copper rg6 a great cable for long runs also . I have also used this solid core rg6 for video/audio cables to another room perfect picture and sound.

A:  Since DirecTV requires the coax to have a solid copper center conductor, and this coax has a steel center conductor with a copper coating I would say NO. The reason DirecTV requires a copper center conductor is that he low-noise block down-converter in the satellite dish is powered through the center conductor of the coax. The resistance of steel is about 8 times greater than copper. If a steel center conductor were used the maximum coax length would be reduced dramatically.

A:  No. Directv require solid copper core because of the voltage that is present from box to LNB. Check out the article link below: http://forums.solidsignal.com/content.php/2635-When-should-you-use-solid-copper-core-coaxial-cable

A:  Please read the question before answering. Any RG6 will work for satellite cable which this is. But is it Approved by DirecTV? It makes a difference if you have an issue and need their help.

A:  If shielding against Wi-Fi signals is desired: There may be some leakage of a Wi-Fi signal onto the internal conductor but I suspect it will be minimal as the attenuation at Wi-Fi carrier frequencies should be quite high. The shielding is not tested at Wi-Fi carrier frequencies, so we have no data and make no guarantee in regard to shielding against Wi-Fi signals.
