Q:Can't find clear instructions. Do some of the "guts" need to be removed before sweating the connections? If this is the case, what needs to be done to remove them.

A: no. mark the position of the connections then unscrew the large 2 screws from the inlet connections then sweat them to the pipe. then just screw back the larger portion
of the valve and handle to the sweated connections. be sure the o ring is not on the connectors you sweat. When the inner parts wear out and the valve starts leaking... and they leak very fast, mine lasted 2 only a few years , all you have to do is get a new valve and just install the new front portion by unscrewing the 2 large screws and putting in the new one. you don't need to re-sweat the connectors you only use the valve portion. easy. the new valve is less than the rip off price watts charges for the replacement valve seal kit. they really should just sell the valve with out the connectors for easy replacement.

A: No, just be certain that the valve is open. I recommend a hotter flame and quick, sure movements but don't sacrifice for speed. You can find instructions on the Web, somewhere. Try scanning the codes.

A: I don't know why the one-page manual isn't available here, but these are the key instructions:
1. No. 175C features 1 ? 2 " (15mm) sweat copper ell adapters.
2. Disassemble adapters and remove O-rings prior to soldering.
See attached photo.

A: To be on the safe side I would remove any part that may melt. I did not have to sweat any joints. Be safe.

A: If water ever leaks at lever handle, you can rebuild that. See end allen screw. Loosen that, and it will come out of body. replace "o" rings on that shaft. Re assemble.

A: No flow adjustment is necessary

A: There’s no need when you turn the valves it doesn’t control water pressure it controls water volume there is no need to control water pressure to the washing machine if you have a water pressure issue you need to install a pressure reducer valve after the water meter

Q:Can I shut off hot side
by|Dec 21, 2019

Answer This Question
A: This style valve opens and closes both hot and cold at the same time. Two simple ways to shut off just the hot supply without replacing this valve would be to install a separate shutoff valve on the hot supply piping upstream of this valve or a hose type shutoff (found where garden hoses are sold) where the hose connects to the discharge side of this valve.

A: no it is on /off for both hot and cold

A: Shuts off both at same time.

A: Hi Aburk,
This particular valve can only shut off hot and cold at the same time. However, we do have other options that shut off each independently.

Q:How to assemble after soldering to insure the O-ring washers don't leak? They look pretty thin! Is there a better/thicker washer. Note: using the more expensive liquid flux got a better flow and seal between the bronze & copper than the paste flux!

Answer This Question
A: The piping connection adapters are made to be easily removed by removing the large screws on the front of the valve. The adapters can then be soldered without heating the valve seals. NOTE: The O-rings must be removed from the adapters before soldering them to the piping. This must be done carefully, preferably with a plastic tool to avoid scratching the O-ring groove in the adapter. Applying silicone lube, made for O-rings, can facilitate the reassembly and extend the life of the O-rings.

A: Disassemble the valve then make solder connections.
To ensure exact positioning
-Disassemble valve
-remove o rings
-reassemble valve make solder connections
-disassemble again
-Reinstall o rings with lubricant
-Reassemble valve

A: The O-Ring may look thin, but it has been used successfully with this part for more than 40 years! There is a reason for the size, however, as a thicker O-Ring would significantly restrict or block the flow. A: For sure, you need to shut off the water to those valves - probably house water supply. don't forget to drain the water above the valves by opening a faucet that is higher up in the house and these valves before you take them off. that will keep you from getting wet.
