My previous AC unit was too loud to sleep with it running. It finally broke down and was looking for a replacement that was quiet yet still powerful enough to cool the whole room. I found this one and the different dual inverter technology to keep the noise to minimum was main feature for me. Also, this seems like one of the top of the line units and it comes with all the bells and whistles. It has with foam stripping to help fitting to various window frames, the remote control, and the phone app. The phone app allows a nicer interface for setting the more complex timers and such, but I would like to see the app updated with more features related to sleep mode such as the included remote control. Hope this AC lasts a long time.

Simple and effective. Very happy with performance.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have a open main floor plan (600 sqft) and next to tv. It is very effective at cooling our floor and not interrupting our TV time.

I love the AC but I hate the app
The “sleep mode” on the app does not work. It says my device does not have it. Obviously it does because it shows in the remote control. lG needs to fix this glitch

Excellent portable AC that outperforms dual hose
The unit is fantastic at cooling our primary space of living room, kitchen and dining room. Being able to put it on a low fan setting overnight means our entire condo stays cool. We have a second, smaller unit for our bedroom. So far, with outside temps hitting 30, we can stay a nice, comfy 21 inside. We had tried a similarly rated unit which did not maintain temps, as well as a dual-hose which also could not keep our home cool all day and into the evening.

          Depends On What You're Expecting
We bought this unit for our living room, averaging 475 square feet. Having dealt with a Texas summer without air conditioning many times, our expectations are probably somewhat lower than others. And our home is somewhat older, with questionable insulation in places. So is our living room cold now? No...not really cold. But it is much better. The air blowing out of our unit is DEFINITELY quite cold.

            Was Sceptical
I was really on the fence about this Portable A/C. I have seen horrid reviews, fair reviews and good reviews. I decided on this A/C because the window kit although not perfect fits my 52 inch window and the SACC rating is currently the highest on the market. I bought the 2 year warranty just in case but if this thing keeps working the way it does I may buy 3 more and turn off my central air. I work exclusively from home in an office that is basically a mini datacenter. And this LG dropped the temp in the room to a freezing 68 degrees in an hour. I even turned it up to 69 because I was freezing. A little expensive but so far worth it.

Did not cool 400 sq ft insulated garage
I live in South Florida so I bought the best, most expensive and highest BTU portable I could find for my 400 sq ft garage. Even though it says its good for 500 sq ft it wasn't enough to cool in May. I had the garage built so I know all walls, attic and even garage doors have thick installation. There re no hot spots but this unit couldn't cool it down. If you look at the pic. it shows how the unit starts off good but then seems to lose its efficiency as it runs. Tests run during the day it would only bring down temps 4 degrees after 2 hrs and then seem to stop there. It blows out very cold air (-22 degrees cooler than intake) and it is unbelievably quiet without the high pitch others speak of. But it just won't work in hot humid climates. It might cool 500 sq ft in Maine or Idaho but not in the South. In conclusion this is a very nice unit but I am skeptical of its 14k rating.

Works perfectly on Gatineau Summer Days
My total room dimension is 172.8 Sq. Ft. this AC is design for 500 Sq. Ft. so it easily cools my room from 27 celcius to 21 celcius in 30 minutes. For reference the window vent dimension is 16.5cm x 58.5cm. My window is not a sliding type, so what i did is i covered the gap using a dura foam + 3M Professional HVAC Duct Tape.

Great AC, but the high pitched noise was too much
I bought this online and used it for two weeks before returning. The AC is fairly quiet on all three fan settings, and does cool quite well even in my poorly insulated apartment. With the Inverter technology there are only smooth transitions in terms of sound intensity, and it does a great job of reliably holding a temperature in the room, plus the fan does a good job of circulating the air. The main issue for me was the high pitched noise as mentioned by a few other reviews. I had been made aware of this in the WireCutter review prior to purchasing, but took their advice that it wouldn't bother me. Unfortunately in practice the AC makes a very high pitched whine around 16KHz - which is right near the top of the human hearing range - and I found it would give me a headache after being in the same room as it for an extended time period. That said my friend who is a year older was not able to hear the noise, and I suspect if I had waited a few years (I'm 30) it would no longer be in the range my hearing can detect and this would become the perfect AC. For now though it's back at Home Depot and I'm trying to find a new AC. See attached screenshot for sound spectrum analyzer app running on my phone from about 10 feet away from the AC when running on Medium. It's not perfectly accurate but shows the high-pitched peaks.

After much research I almost bought an a/c that was on a “best of” list. I stumbled upon an unbiased video review of the LG duel inverter. I went to reviews and was almost ready to buy but the 1 and 2 star reviews made me question it for a minute. All I can tell you from my experience is to ignore those reviews because it cannot get better than this. (Unless it falls apart after a year) this unit is first and foremost COLD (60*). It is also QUIET (duel inverter). It also happens to be easy to install and attractive. I haven’t seen the electricity bill yet but I will deal with it in order to be able to sleep soundly at night. I hope they never stop making these. Go buy one now and you will not be disappointed!

                    Portable ACs are horrible.
A giant expensive unit like this one can not cool a 20x16 or 320 sqft. This is the worse decision that I ever made purchasing a 14,000 BTU LG. My two units are not this exact one they are the LP1415GXR. I returned one of them the first year because it would not cool. The second year half the way through the summer another one stopped cooling. I unplugged made sure all the filters were clean and plugged it back in. I don’t know what the issue was because the fillers were clean but the following day it started cooling again, but it wasn’t cooling as well. it eventually started kicking a circuit breaker every time I turned it on. I switched the two out both on different breakers. It continued to kick the breaker it was on although the other didn’t kick a breaker. This year I just hooked the good one up and it was making a noise. It still does cool all that well. I will never purchase another portable I wish that I hadn’t got rid of my window units. It looks like I will be switching back to window unit, much superior cooling from a small unit that the giant portable has ever been capable of. I am warning you about spending big dollars on a worthless portable, but you will ultimately have to choose for yourself. Oh, yeah, you better have a pan when it overflows even when its hooked up and is supposed to pump the water outside instead of on you floor. It will shutoff and make you manually exit the tank even with the cord attached to the window. It tries to do something to evaporate the tank instead of overflow outside. It usually does a good job at that but if full it shuts down.

                      Best A/C ever!
It is so good looking and full of features, and extremely quiet. We bought it for that reason. On sleep mode it sounds like a fan is on at best. Highly recommend this unit if you’re willing to pay up, and save cash in the long run and/or need something quiet for the bedroom. Wifi set up was easy enough, nice little perk.

Much better than I thought! AC units are loud, and you don’t really notice it until you have one inside your place. This unit however is much quieter than my old one (I actually downloaded a phone app to compare decibels). Easy installation, easy app to use, and I’ve already recommended it to some folks.

                        Efficient
I have an old farm house, and the upstairs was unbearably hot over summer months. I bought this and it made a big difference for the upstairs... when it was new it worked almost too well, it was super super cold and would even cool off the lower level of the house a few degrees. Now that I have used it for a month it isn’t quite as cold, I find myself leaving it on the coldest setting and giving it more time running before bedtime... it’s also August now so the nights aren’t as hot as they were. My energy bill did increase, but maybe $50/month more for running this thing constantly- I expected it to cost more to run so that was a pleasant surprise.

I just purchased this product. I have run other portable units in the past, and I have to say this one is a lot quieter than anything else I have used. I was surprised how cold the air is coming out of this unit compaired to others I have owned. It dropped the temp in my 20'x20' living room by 8 degrees in under an hour. I am a bit dissapointed with the cord length, nut other than that this is a great product. It comes with everything other that clear weather stripping tape to seal your window off. Usually you have to purchase everthing separately.

                          Lg smart air conditioner
Bought this air conditioner a few days ago and love it! I was originally looking at a different air conditioner and when comparing them side by side I liked the look and design better on this 1. This air conditioner wasn’t cheap and I know I bought it when they jack up the prices but I didn’t feel like running out last minute when the heat starts coming. I had 2 buy extra hosing and redo the vent hose system cause I have no way of having the unit right by my window... This air conditioner is really quiet and you shouldn’t have any problems sleeping with it running!

                            quiet, well designed, sleek, smart
DISCLOSURE: I've owned this unit less than a week (my friend owns one as well, which I helped set up) so I can't comment on the long-term reliability, only functionality compared to other units I've owned or used. 【TL;DR】 This is about as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners - and that's quite good. 【INTRO & BACKGROUND】 I've owned several "window shaker" type air-conditioners over the last decade, and one other portable. Window models are slightly more efficient (because the "hot section" sits entirely outside) but are extremely inconvenient to install unless your building is designed with a port for them. Many allow "street noise" through, nevermind being rather noisy themselves. Most portable A/C units use generic "guts" and just replace the outer cosmetic shell. This LG is different, which I'll explain in the pros and cons below. I'm going to start "from the ground up" because LG's design team really hit a home-run with this one. 【FEATURES & PROS+】 • The "smooth gliding caster wheels" are extremely durable, easy-rolling and swiveling - many portables use cheap, "office chair" type wheels that bend, break, and clog with hair. • There's a drain plug centered near the bottom of the unit and connected to a 2-pint water tank. The device evaporates water through the exhaust hose but the tank acts as a buffer if it can't remove enough. The device will shut-down if the tank fills up and will send a warning, including one via the smartphone/tablet app, to empty the tank before resuming operation. • the included vent panels store in a slot built onto the back of the unit - this is a MASSIVE improvement over every other portable on the market where you need extra storage space (or a roll of duct tape) to store accessories • the included window vent panels are thick, reinforced, high quality, non-brittle plastic (ABS or PVC perhaps?) and there are enough of them to cover wide windows. In fact, in my apartments with average windows, there was enough paneling to install in TWO separate windows. I cut an extra port in one of the panels with a Dremel routering jig (see pics) and now I don't have to move the exhaust panel, just the unit. • the exhaust hose points VERTICALLY from the back of the unit - another massive improvement over other brands in which the hose exits horizontally - less clearance is needed, and the hose stores right on the unit • dual-inverter compressor - in short: the compressor motor can run at different speeds which makes it not only more energy efficient but MUCH quieter, especially on start up. Instead of the *CLUNK...RATTLE* on compressor start/stop that gives box units the "window shaker" nickname, this one quietly spools up and down, making it great for bedrooms. • smartphone/tablet app monitoring & control - you can check room temperature, check the unit's status, and fully control it from anywhere in the world. Once connected to the network, the unit can be controlled via app even when you're away from home. (you may need the geeky-kid-next-door to make sure your home network doesn't block this) • app allows for scheduled start and stop, as well as delayed ON/OFF 【QUIRKS & CONS-】 • the remote control is anemic and very sensitive to direction - I've practically given up on it in favour of the smartphone app, and the on-unit control panel (no biggie - I think LG assumed people would use the smart app or panel and the remote was an after-thought) It does stand upright, and comes with a wall bracket, though. • The app is slightly quirky: there's a lot of wasted space that results in having to scroll, and click "expand" tabs. I'd like to see this improved by having all controls on the same screen - simple sliders or radio buttons instead of MASSIVE sections would solve this. • Unit requires a 2.4GHz WiFi network with WPA/WPA2 security (doesn't support WEP, not that you should be using WEP security in 2019). Once connected, the app will find it no matter where you are. (5GHz WiFi or on cellular data) • No ECO/AUTO mode - HOWEVER... the "DRY" mode seems to function exactly as you'd expect an ECO/AUTO mode to: it still uses the compressor to cool the air/dehumidify, but runs the fan on low only, then shuts the entire unit off when the target temperature is reached. 【Conclusion】 Despite the quirks, all of the pros of this unit (smart accessory storage, wheels, low noise level, smartphone monitoring & control anywhere) make it a winner for me, and my friend who owns the same unit. While on my bus commute home, from my smartphone, I can check my apartment temperature, command the air-conditioner to power on, and set a target temperature. I get home and the apartment is habitable. An aside: the smarts and dual-inverter, quiet compressor in this unit are available in LG window models, as well as split systems. If your home has a port for a window type, that might be something to consider. Top marks - this is as good as it gets in portable air-conditioners.

Love it! Installed it in a sun room. It is much quieter than a typical air conditioner. Because of the inverter, you never hear a compressor cycling on and off. Outside it is 75. The room was 81. In less than an hour the room was 73.

                                Cool features!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently purchased this portable AC unit in preparation for the unbearable heat of the California Summer. So far, it works like a charm! My husband is more of a tech person so he really enjoys all the cool features this AC has to offer. I’m usually the person that gets frustrated with tech, but even this ac is easy for me to control which is awesome. It cools my entire house within minutes. And it’s not as loud as other ac units which is a plus. I especially enjoy the timer feature where it turns off by itself because, let’s face it, we all forget to turn things off after a while. It’s unique look is also a great touch. The last AC I owned had the vent exposed which wasn’t too great because it would collect dust fast or there was a rick if things accidentally falling into it, but this one has a cover that opens/ closes the vents when the machine is on/off. It also moves up and down as the machine is on so that it spreads the cool air around the area (and faster) instead of just shooting it in one direction. And I can’t forget about the coolest feature so far- it connects to WiFi and your phone!! Definitely worth every penny!

Makes a really high-pitched, ear piercing noise when cooling. If you have sensitive ears, I would look elsewhere. Was also delivered upside down so had to let it sit for 24 hours before using.
