Turned out really great for my mudroom!

This slate stone has a major problem with delamination. It is extremely difficult to get relatively clean cuts without major chipping as the layers separate so easily Once it is down, extreme caution must be exercised to avoid breakage as the internal voids make it very fragile in compression (like walking on it). I have used a great deal of slate in my home previously and never ran into the difficulties I experienced with this stone. When trying to make slight adjustment cuts it is very likely to break apart. I purchased twice what I needed and it turned out that I needed twice as much to account for the poor quality. The photo shows typical separation between layers on the two top pieces and a completely cleaved piece which is all too common. I like the look of slate so I didn't downgrade it for appearance but be prepared to learn a few new swear words not previously in your vocabulary if you try using this stone.

Easy to work with and great quality

Beautiful when installed with a finish. Its natural stone so some pieces are thicker than others and some are more brittle than others.

Bathroom project just completed with this tile. Am very pleased with it. The color is beautiful and love the texture of real slate! Because it is natural slate it is not always perfectly even like ceramic tile, so takes some time and patience to put in and make sure is level. Had the tile shipped to my home and that worked great. Was packed well and no tiles were broken or damaged.

I purchased 4 pallets, 320 sqft, of the Montauk Blue Ashlar Pattern Gauged Slate Floor and Wall Tile kits and had them delivered to the store. I then brought one of the 80 sqft boxes home and although the tile appears to be of good quality, it is no where near the color or variation shown on the pictures online. It is a very consistent green/brown/gray slate with 0 variation between tiles. I tried wetting down the tile but that only brought out more of the warm green color in my opinion. The boxes the tile came in were also simple brown unbranded cardboard boxes so there was no way to tell if home depot accidentally shipped the wrong tile or the picture online is just wrong. Unfortunately i had to return the full lot, which is unfortunate because we really loved the tile shown in the images.

Ordered 10 boxes online. Came within 10 days and came very well packaged, no broken tiles at all. Installed in our laundry room in a herringbone pattern, turned out awesome! Tiles cut very easily with wet tile saw. Thickness varies a bit but we compensated with the mortar bed. I sealed them twice before grouting and still had to do a little scrubbing with a cleaner afterwords which was mostly expected after reading reviews. Grouted with Delorian grey grout and resealed again with 511 seal and enhance. Overall we love how it came out and will probably use again when remodeling our bathrooms.

Beautiful slate tiles. Install is a little tricky where edges are uneven (which also makes for trickier cleaning), but it looks beautiful.

The tiles were a little more greenish blue that we were expecting and vary in thickness. We made sure that the subfloor was level...but still had to float some tiles to make the floor even. Also, not all tiles were perfectly rectangular so we ended up trimming some of them to keep the grout lines straight. But for the low cost of this tile, you should expect them to not be perfect. So, this is definitely not a beginner's tiling project. If you are willing to futz with it, you will have a beautiful (and fairly cheap!) floor. Otherwise, you may end up with an uneven floor/catching your feet on uneven tiles. For the record, the tiles were expertly delivered - not a single broken tile in the 13 boxes we ordered!

Floor turned out beautifully! I would recommend getting a tile saw if you are planning to use this tile. The regular tile cutters don't work on it due to the natural fracture lines of slate. I used a diamond wheel on a grinder and it worked but a tile saw would have been easier. It is not perfectly flat so if you are after that, I wouldn't choose a stone tile, but I love the way mine turned out. The pictures are before i put on the sealer. I used mapei flexcolor ready to use grout in warm gray and thought it went well. Was light enough to make the grout lines stand out but not too bright.

These slate tiles are absolutely stunning. If you are like me and appreciate natural beauty, these are a great choice at a great price point. A little more costly than the cheaper porcelain tiles but they are thick, solid, and probably can take a lot of abuse. What I love the most is each individual tile has a different textured pattern. If you’re lucky, some pieces have a gold glitter-like residue from a secondary stone (pyrite?). However, we were only gifted with 3 tiles with these special attributes. The tiles pictured below have a protective seal on top to give it a wet look. You can change the type of shine depending on preference. Easy to clean and supprisingly masks pet hair better than my previous flooring. Can’t wait to install these tiles in my bathrooms.

I was apprehensive at first because of some bad reviews but it came out great and we got a lot of compliments. We used it on our front porch, it was a DIY project and the installation was easy.

Excellent color striations and easy to work with and manipulate using a standard tile cutter. We paired with a grey grout against a white-washed brick fireplace and it really pops!!

From the moment I saw photos of Montauk Blue Slate, I knew I had to have it in my bathroom and laundry room remodel. It really is more of a blue/grey/green depending on the light and the variation of each tile but I love that it is subtle and looks amazing with my other items. I ended up doing both a herringbone and a subway pattern with a lighter grey grout (called Dove Grey) and love the texture and character of this product. Even my contractor was impressed with it and said it was super easy to work with and cut like "butter" and didn't have a ton of waste. And he had to make A LOT of cuts with the herringbone pattern. He did seal the slate once before he grouted it and then again after grouting. He said that's because when grout gets on the unsealed slate, it's harder to get off if you haven't sealed it, so there's a little tip for you. He ended up using a product called Wet Look Sealer in glossy but it's really not over the top glossy. He applied it with a roller. Everything was complete a couple days ago so my photos are showing it brand spanking new. I ordered this product online because NO Home Depot in my region carried it in stock. They only ever had the black. It was so frustrating because I couldn't see this product before ordering and there was no option for a sample. I ended up ordering one box with the thought that I could return it if I didn't like it. Fortunately I did so I ordered the rest. I had it delivered to my local store and I picked it up myself. It is heavy! I would definitely recommend this product. I think it's beautiful and goes in virtually any style home.

The tiles were very uniform and our installers did not have any issues. We had them delivered to our home and did not have any broken tiles. We installed the 4x12 in a herringbone pattern and loved the result. I used combo sealer/enhancer after it was installed and it really enhanced the color and characteristics of the slate.

This tile is absolutely beautiful in person and is more like a grayish blue than black. It’s easy to install. We used a charcoal grout from powertec and it looks really nice. I was a little concerned about the tiles coming off as a “commercial space” look but our tile guy did and excellent job. One thing to note is that you need to seal this tile!

Lots of colors, second time using this product. Recommend.

Good quality, Beautiful flooring

Excellent floor product. Use specialized mortar for large stone tile. It is also recommended to pre-arrange the tile and sort them in the desired positions, mark and keep notes as they are a natural product where some areas may be uneven. Due to their size and weight, handling is not very easy and once they are carefully lowered in place, immediately slide and push until the grout distance is correct - use spacers (if possible), then set lightly with rubber mallet - that's it. Remove the haze per instructions after applying the grout material and use a sealer when everything is complete. The result is worth the effort!

We used this in our new house for the entry and laundry room. It is so easy to work with and absolutely beautiful! We did a herringbone pattern and turned out amazing! We used the natural grey grout with it. The pictures show some foot prints but the floors clean up very nicely.

1. The fact that this slate is gauged in thickness sets it apart from junky cheapo slates that you see at many tile stores like the tile shop. You spread the thinset, back butter the slate , and you get a pretty even surface. That's huge. 2. Make certain you are getting the "Blue slate" if that is what you want instead of the black slate. The Black slate is the one they stock at many Home Depots. It is dark green with splashes of black. The Blue slate is monochromatic and is a slightly lighter blue-green color. i recommend the Blue. One caution; I ordered the12x 24 blue and got black and had to return it. I am not sure wht the respective product IDs are. 3. I did my Master shower, 8 ft. walls and cut the tiles into 6x6 to do the shower base. The slate cuts like butter and does not fall apart as easily as marble . I love this stuff. I used to get AO Vermont green slate but now this is my favorite.

I purchased this product to replace some broken tiles. The tiles didn’t look nothing like the photo. In the photo they appeared to be a perfect match to what I had but they were much lighter. As far as placing the tiles that is the only thing that went right

This slate tile is thicker than ceramic tile, but still fragile. Unfortunately some were broken in one of the packs I purchased. But with a gray grouting these tiles look very appealing with some texture on the surface. I also recommend sealing it with a slate/stone sealer. 4 starts only because they should be packaged better

Absolutely gorgeous! We used it as a border to the fireplace, and it's perfect! Didn't do the installation ourselves, but the person doing the cutting and installation had no problems with it.

I purchased this tile this summer, it was much cheaper. It does easily crack, but it is beautiful once you put it down. I put it on my porch. you have to be careful when applying pressure to it.

If I had to do it over again I would not have installed this type of tile in my kitchen. It sure is pretty to look at in your kitchen however; it is really cold and hard to keep clean. If you do a lot of cooking you have to make sure what ever spills are cleaned up immediately. You will need to seal it once a year. The maintenance takes a lot of effort. I wish my tile guy would have explained the pros and cons before installing it. Also - the counter top guys dripped caulking onto the floor and can’t get it off. The photos show the mess it has created.

Love this tile! After looking at pictures if it in other people's homes I was pretty confident it would look good in my kitchen and it did! It totally completes the look. Very classy looking slate for a good price. I couldn't have asked for better flooring.
