About This Product

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: 1. Protect hands with chemical-resistant gloves and eyes with chemical splash goggles. Be observant of torn gloves or other accidental skin contact since no burning or stinging sensation is immediately experienced. 2. Allow to warm to room temperature then shake vigorously for 2 minutes. Hold can in upright position approximately 10" to 12" from surface. Point arrow on button away from you and depress to apply a generous, orange coating. 3. After 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours), test a small area to see if finish is softened and ready for removal. Remove loosened finish by gently scraping in direction of wood grain with a plastic stripping tool. For stubborn areas, use an abrasive pad sprayed with CITRISTRIP Paint & Varnish Stripper. A toothbrush, toothpick or stripping brush will help remove old finish buried in recesses. 4. Use a paint stripper wash to loosen remaining residue and then mineral spirits to prepare surface for painting. Keep out of reach of children.

Q:I'm seeing conflicting answers so I'm asking this question again. Will this work to remove stain on a very old wood stool? Some answers say "yes" and some say "no," because the stain has seeped into the wood.
        by|Apr 7, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Citristrip will remove stain from old wood. Wood is a porous surface and some of the stain may have penetrated into the pores of the wood which would cause the wood to appear uneven in color after stripping.

            Works great !
Works great with virtually no effort! With a brush thickly and evenly apply it to the surface, walk away, and watch the paint curdle. I’m stripping the paint on my side entry door to paint it black. I was so surprised at how well it works. With a spackle knife just gently scrape away and done !

              Ruined My Cabinet
I used Citristrip on a wooden cabinet, thinking it would be easier than sanding the louvered doors. It left dark, oily stains that I could not clean or sand out. I tried every suggestion I could find- mineral spirits, baking soda, everything- to salvage this wood. But my dream vanity cabinet was ruined. Don’t use this product on anything you’re attached to, folks.

Best thing to remove old paint
I first tried to use a heat gun and a putty knife to strip multiple layers of old paint. Very laborious and slow process. This stuff loosened 3 layers of old paint in a matter of an hour. As soon as you see old paint shriveling, you can easily scrape it off with a putty knife. Repeat to take off more layers. Then wait a day or two untill this stuff dries out and you can start painting or tiling.

I think most reviews of this product are in error
I am stripping the old paint off a 1949 cello. I was using Klean Strip and it was working fine. But I ran out and got Citrus Strip just to finish up So far everything I read about this product is wrong. It dries just as fast as Klean Strip and it seems like you have to use 3 times as much. I had to use a brass wire brush and apply it 4 times. It may not smell but the old paint coming off is like glue and does not want to wipe off. Had to use soap and water to get this stuff off.

NEW FORMULA IS CRAP. DO NOT BUY!
Previous to 2022 this product was amazing. However sometime in mid 2022 there was a change in the ingredients for the worst. 90% of all the good reviews are 2022 and previous,. However, since mid 2022 to current September 2023, 90% of all reviews are negative with 1 star. I never leave reviews, but please trust me on this one guys, or it will be a waste of your time, money and will destroy your beautiful wood.

Do NOT get on your skin
Some of the spray got in my glove. I thought it was sweat and didn’t flush with water and soap for two hours. Hand was numb for a day and the skin is still peeling everywhere on the hand now a week later. If it’s 97° with >80% humidity, you only need to wait ten minutes before scraping off. Nature’s heat gun

                        It works
Never used varnish remover, but this was top shelf won't use anything else. Didn't have to wait full 20 just 5 minutes it works great. Do suggest for people with air smell quality it helped

50 years of paint and varnish gone
Very happy with results. In the evening, I setup saw horses outdoors, laid panels flat, brushed on heavy, covered with plastic and let sit overnight. When I peeled the plastic off, a lot of the paint came off with it. I laid the plastic to the side and as I scraped, I placed it on the plastic to keep the mess down. Rolled it up when finished.
