1/2 in. Wood Chisel

This 1/2 inch wood chisel is sharp right out of the package. I need to make several half-lap joints and I cut the notches out with a circular saw, cleaned out the chips, then touched up the notches with the chisel. The chisel cut the wood very easily requiring very little force. Maintenance and care is essential for these types of tools and the plastic 'holster' is comes in is very re-usable and can be hunt from a peg board for easy access. The chisel did just what I needed it to do.

The easy to grip, rugged handle fits solidly in your hand, for a precise and accurate cut. Treat this tool with reasonable care, and it will last for years. Never use it on nail imbedded wood, and never sharpen it on a grinding wheel, which is too course, and heats the tool so quickly that you risk ruining the temper. Never attempt to put an edge on the bottom flat side. Properly sharpened, It will keep its edge for a very long time, but when a sharpening is finally called for, it is best done with an oiled stone, using a honing guide to preserve the very important blade angle. DeWalt also makes a “Construction Chisel”, of the same fine quality that is designed to handle rough work, like framing and fencing. This selection of DeWalt Wood Chisels is by far the best performing and the best looking of the many I have used over the years, and I recommend it.

Dewalt chisels are an excellent value for a good quality tool. The hardened, tempered, chrome, carbon-steel blade will hold a sharp edge over time and is lacquered for corrosion protection. I really like the rubberized ergonomic handle. This makes for a comfortable, non-slip grip and the indentations for the thumb and index finger allows greater control. An added detail is the hardened strike cap at the end of the handle that can be used with a mallet or even the palm of my hand. *TIP*- Save the packaging to use as a cover to protect the chisels cutting edge when storing.
