            Great for Deck Building
I use this for simple sanding of visual pine to give it a better look than what is presented as-is. Makes staining and painting boards much easier. I use the sander on a daily basis but now and then throughout the day...not continuously. Battery compartment area is LIMITED on battery size you can use. I can use up to the 5aH XR sized battery because the housing will not allow anything bigger. I have not tried the newer Powerstack series of battery with this tool.

              Maybe ok for small jobs
I bought this to repair and sand some old/deteriorated facia boards in hopes of not having to drag a cord around the house. I was sanding a 2-part wood epoxy. I initially used it but noticed it was dying quickly (New batteries) with any aggressive sanding. After about a half day of sanding I pulled out my old corded Makita palm sander and remembered the drastic difference a corded tool makes. The Makita cut my sand time in half, so I stuck with it and dragged a cord around the entire house and it was still better. I think the Dewalt would be fine for small, less aggressive sanding jobs but not for anything substantial. Returned the Dewalt.

Sander is fantastic. 20v battery only - no larger than 5AH. The output for vacuum will get in the way if you try to put on a 6ah or larger battery. I used a 4ah and a 5ah during sanding. The grip on sand paper is quite good - I had no problem or slippage from the sand paper while sanding. The attached perforation board for the sand paper worked as designed - put holes in the paper for ventilation. Selectable speeds from 1-7 give quite a bit of flexibility on the project. I was surprised how little my hands hurt after using this for 30 minutes. The battery usage was also good - being the brushless product. Preforms better than my corded unit - have an old "mouse" sander with a short cord. Dewalt cordless is just as powerful - more even - than my old corded unit. I was hoping the output hose connector would work with my Dewalt vac - nope. Perhaps with a larger shop vac unit - but that would limit me to a corded tool. Every time I upgrade a corded tool to Dewalt cordless I am amazed with the versatiliy.

his is a battery operated quarter sheet variable speed hand sander. We have a larger sander that was too heavy and bulky for me to use. It was also not battery operated and did not work well for smaller projects. This is much easier to use according to my husband. The fact that I can use it, too, attests to that. It can be used with smaller projects and with a wide variety of grit sand paper. It works really well and the battery makes it much easier to maneuver. The battery does not come with the sander, so if you do not have one, you will need to purchase both the battery and the battery charger. There are a number of batteries that Dewalt makes but the one that works with this sander is the 20V max lithium ION 5ah. We had a larger battery that did not fit.

Since I already have a 20-Volt tool with two batteries, getting the sander - tool only made a lot of sense. The sander is easy to use and not too heavy. The sandpaper is easy to insert into the one slot on one side however the button release is a little bit of a challenge for me. The other side slips under the spring mechanism and was easy to operate. I used the dust collector attachment and pierced the paper as instructed. The collector manages to collect about 50% of the dust only. This is a great little tool for small to moderate size projects . There are 7 pages of safety instructions and only 2 pages of use instructions.

I needed a cordless sander for work and this seemed like a good choice. I've never had a cordless sander before, only corded, and selected this particular one because I already have Dewalt 20V batteries available and this came as a bare tool. It comes with a dust bag that easily screws on and a flat plate, not sure what it's called, with protrusions to poke holes in your sandpaper with for better dust collection. No bag but not that big of a deal. Right now I'm prepping to paint a house and had filled in some siding with patch, and the sander did a pretty good job of it. I attached a 1.5Ah battery I already had and the whole thing was still pretty light. The speed dial seems to have a good variety of range of speeds, and is easy to adjust. The on/off switch is pretty standard compared to the other sanders. After several minutes of sanding the power had gone down about 30%, or 1 bar, and for intermittent use I'm fairly happy with it for the portability it has. One advantage of the sheet sander is being able to sand into corners and to use 1/4 of a sheet of regular sandpaper. I like the finish of random orbit sander better and the hook/loop peel off quick sandpaper attachment they have is better, compared to this one that takes more than a few moments to complete. I did not choose this sander for its finish quality, I do a lot of exterior carpentry work and it doesn't always need to be perfect, I figured this would do a decent enough job and I have different sanders for fine finish work at other times. Overall a decent sander if you need to be mobile.

The DeWalt DCW200 comes as a bare tool, no battery, charger, or storage case. The sander uses standard 20V Max DeWalt batteries. If you install a battery over 5 a/h, you’ll need to pick up a different dust port (part # N684701) because the larger battery size can’t clear the standard dust port. I’m using the smaller 2 a/h cells so there’s no problem with clearance. I’ve not used the sander long enough to completely discharge a battery but since I have several 2 a/h cells I doubt I’ll opt for using larger batteries. YMMV. In use, fit and finish is excellent and vibration is minimal. I find it comfortable to hold and use. The power switch (see photo) is a ‘rocker’ style switch and is sealed against sawdust. The switch is positive in action, I’ve had no unintentional shutdowns. There’s an included dust bag (see photo). If you elect to use the bag or vacuum, there’s an included ‘hole puncher’ (see photo) which can be used to punch small ‘drain holes’ (that’s what I call them) in the sandpaper. The punch can be used by hand or can be mounted to a workbench via two screw holes. The dust bag is a ‘twist on / twist off’ design and locks in securely in place. The dust bag does a decent job of collecting sawdust, but a vacuum is better. Of course, if you’re working in an area where you’re not worried about getting things dusty you can just use the sander w/o punching ‘drain holes’ in the paper and forgoing the vacuum. I don't like to use a vacuum; I don't like having the hose get in the way. The bag is O.K., it doesn't get in the way of the work. YMMV. The tool uses 1/4 sheets of sandpaper (see photo). I use scissors to cut a standard size sheet into quarters and they fit perfectly. No tools are required for mounting the paper and it takes only a few seconds to switch to new sheets. This is a most welcome addition to my tool kit – my other sanders are a battery operated ‘corner’ sander and a decades old corded orbital sander. Having one that works with my collection of DeWalt batteries makes life a litter easier. It works as advertised, has good ergonomics, and any standard sheet sandpaper can be cut to fit, no need to buy specially sized paper. I think it’s a five-star product, the vibration is considerably less than my old corded sander. YMMV. The sander is guaranteed for 3 years (see photo), with a 1 year ‘free service’ included and, of course, the Home Depot 90-day return policy applies. HTH Regards, Jim
