I can't get GE to tell me if the bottom of the microwave is metal or plastic; particularly the bottom of the door. My husband melted our last door. We need metal.

Answer:
It looks to be metal to me and I have already heated water for tea under the Microwave. There was a lot of steam and no melting. So, this may be a good product for your husband.

Hello Hotstove - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
Our microwave doors have a perforated screen, which is scientifically designed to allow viewing into the microwave oven, reflects the microwave energy, and prevents it from passing through the window or plastic.
A choke seal which is a protective layer around the door, assists in containing the microwave energy into the oven cavity.

As long as an over-the-range microwave is installed properly, there should be no problem from the heat from the cooktop.
I hope this helps! Thank you for contacting GE! Read Less

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. This microwave can be changed to be vented to the outside. Instructions for doing so can be found in the Installation Instructions. You will want to remove the charcoal filter if changing the recirculating venting to outside venting. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful! I love this microwave! I bought it because it matched my GE dishwasher but it has great features and I absolutely love the look of it. I especially love the night lite feature. I set it to come on around dark and to go off a few hours later after we are settled in for the night. Who thinks of these things! :-) July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall, very happy. Purchased this microwave to replace a GE microwave that was working perfectly fine, only because we wanted to match the other stainless steel appliances. My only negative point would be that the exhaust fan is fairly loud. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Love my gas stove top! Easy to clean. Cooks great. Looks great. The clock could be easier to reset. A lot of heat escapes when the oven is on. Could add a grill plate to the griddle feature. July 2, 2016
