Bought this compator and within 3 months had problems with the footswitch. Had it fixed under warranty. Three months later the same problem occurred. Had it fixed again. Right after the warranty expired, it broke yet again, same thing, the foot switch. Paid for that, then the switch came loose from the housing due to the poor quality of the plastic bars holding the switch in place. Just left it sitting at an angle as my family all learned how to get it to work even with the broken switch by holding the unit at an angle and using the foot switch (there is no other way to get it to compact). The handle turned from stainless to copper brown within 15 months of purchase, so you won't like that eiher. Get a plain black unit that has a turn hand switch like my in-laws have (they have a Whirlpool that is 9 years old and no problems). That will be what I buy when this unit goes to the dumpster (likely very soon!).

Rated 1 out of 5 I have owned this product for only 1 1/2 years and it already needs a new motor...a $400 fix. After spending $800 for a GE brand I would have expected to get more years out of it. Not impressed to say the least.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Cjtdraper Very disappointed in GE
I purchased this unit thinking it would be a quality appliance in addition to looking very nice. I was wrong; I just found out that after just a year and a half of light use it needs a new motor. I will not be replacing with another GE.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by CenTex2013 Works great until the warranty runs out
I really like the way it looks and it worked great for about 15 months. Then it all started, when you push on the pedal all you would get is a humming sound from the motor. If you turn the motor a little bit then it will go back to working for a few days and then it starts all over again. This problem would get worse and now it might work 0ne or two times then start humming again. I have found out GE put a cheap China motor in this compactor and the only way to fix it is to change out the motor for about $250.00. This is not an easy job and it would cost too much to have someone else put it in. I have spent enough money on this junk, so after 19 months I am going to buy a different Brand of Trash Compactor.
I would not recommend this to any one, much less a friend.
It would be best to run from this compactor.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by noone Unless thats real gold showing thru, its a Trash Can.
The first time I cleaned the handle the coating came off. I removed the rest with some 000 steel wool and revealed a beautiful very shiny gold handle in just a few minutes. Wish I could match the other Profile Appliances with the same. The gold on this model is stylish and beautiful, The compactor broke after a month. Its a beautiful Trash Can.
