LG LDS5540ST Dishwasher - Stainless Steel
Sad when my 10 year old one was better
Pro: looks nice
Quiet but whines
Not standard size dishwasher if you need plumbing/electric under it ½ to 1inch clearance
Outside door tension spring made of rope
No end/finish light
No start button after picking cycle wait it starts…… if you hit power turns off at this point
Top rack is not glass friendly
The soap container slide latch hard to use
Does not dry
I had a kitchen remodel and replace my old working 10 year old dishwasher during that time. I noticed during installed the outside door tension spring is a rope, not a medal spring like the old one. It also has the bottom rack so low, the ground clearance under it is like ½ to an inch where my other standard dishwasher had 6 inches under it for the drain hose and electric. Let say this “standard” size dishwasher did not fix in the same hole the other standard sized one came out of. They had to cut up my cabinets and drill hole through my floor.
I recommend you take some dishes with you when shopping. We didn't and the rack design looked good in the store but when you use it, not at all. The dishes sit in there at an angle with half a cup rim suspending them. The top rack is not glass friendly. There is only 1 row where you can put glasses without having them supported by a tine or they are falling over. Cleans them very well but does not dry them even with rinse aid and the extra dry setting on. I like the ability to fold down the tines, but I knock them down when loading the dishwasher. It runs quiet but makes whining noises. The soap container is small and does not like to slide and latch. You either got to cram a pod in it sideways or be a master powder pourer not to get it in the slider. There is no start button so you find yourself turning it off by mistake after picking options. There is no end/ finish light so you find yourself look at dishes are these clean? You forget after the long clean cycles.

This LG dishwasher is a lemon. Avoid it and all subsequent models and updates like the plague. There is not a week that goes by over the last two years when we haven't had to pull it apart to clean this out. With nearly EVERY WASH there are dishes that need to be either re-washed or hand washed. It had broken down several times since we purchased it, averaging about once per month.
Yes, we follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding pre-washing and other care and maintenance of this dishwasher. We always include jet wash or something similar. This is just a terrible product.
We love our LG fridge. We hate this LG dishwasher.

This dishwasher has been a mistake for practically day one. It gets bound up very easily. I rinse off my dishes pretty good before washing. It's the dishwasher detergent. It gets built up and caked on. I have only owned this machine for about two years and I am having to remand wash everything because it's so awful!
Also, the drawers fall off all the time and I have to try to get the wheels lined back up with a tray full of dishes.

This dishwasher is poorly designed. The bottom tray pulls all the way out too easily and is very difficult to replace on its tracks. The top shelf does not hold stemware, like wineglasses, securely. It washes fine, but why in the world would you put in a shelf that pulls all the way out? Crazy.

I was looking online when I saw this dishwasher that I a looking to replace. I have had it less then two years it just does not work. Dishes even rinsed and washed before putting in come out with spots. If you do not open the door after running the dishes stay wet and if you run before you go on a trip you will return to mold on your dishes. You will regret this purchase no question.

When I first got this dishwasher, I was very pleased with the amount of room both levels had and how quiet it was compared to my first dishwasher. However, just under two years now and I have an intense high pitch sound coming from it. Did everything I could to figure where it was coming from, even tried cleaning it with a special dishwasher cleaner. Helped a little but still there. The newest issue we have is we've been noticing brown stains on some of the dishes and all over the inside of the dishwasher door. Based off what we can tell its rust coming from somewhere inside. Other research I've done says it's the actual door rusting which is odd since this is supposed to be stainless steel. What bothers me on top of these issues and spending so much money was that when I bought it, the reviews where very high, no issues. You do the same search today for this model and now you get 1 to 2 stars. What makes me mad is that a brand name manufacture like LG puts out such a poor product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JAK Really quiet, and the dishes are clean.
I can barely hear this running, so that was a pleasant surprise. I've only run one load so far, but I put dishes in with egg that dried, and didn't do much to clean flatware beforehand. Everything came out squeaky clean. The flexibility on how to load is great, too - tines fold down on top and bottom racks, and the top is also adjustable. This should work for just about anything I want to put in. I also really like the fact that the flatware holders are 3 separate pieces, so you can take out each piece separately if a different configuration is needed.
