About This Product

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL SURGE 1/4 in. Hex Hydraulic Driver is the industry's first 12-Volt hydraulic impact driver. Featuring the FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain, the hydraulic impact will allow users to experience operation up to 2X quieter with less vibration for smoother and faster driving speeds compared to standard impacts. The compact size of the tool and battery provides users with unmatched access in tight spaces & allows for easy transport on a tool belt and easy fitting into a job site tool bag. Performance is not sacrificed despite lower peak torque due to its Longer Sustained Torque that allows the tool to complete core users most common applications. The POWERSTATE Brushless Motor delivers up to 0 RPM-3,000 RPM with constant power output to drive screws faster. Built-in REDLINK PLUS intelligence is the most advanced electronic system on the market, preventing damage to the user's tool and battery caused by overloading or overheating. Our M12 REDLITHIUM HIGH OUTPUT CP2.5 Battery Pack delivers 25% more power and runs 25% cooler vs our other M12 REDLITHIUM CP battery packs. This increased performance of the lithium-ion battery gives you the same power and runtime of an M12 REDLITHIUM XC battery in a lighter and more compact package. The 12-Volt battery pack delivers fade-free power and runs substantially cooler through demanding applications, allowing you to push your cordless power tools throughout a wide range of applications.

Highlights

  • FLUID-DRIVE hydraulic powertrain reduces metal on metal contact within the tool, delivering quieter operation, smoother performance and increased durability over a standard impact

Q:Is there a power difference between this and the m18 version, or does the m18 just have longer battery life with the bigger battery?
by|Mar 26, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi James! The M18 FUEL SURGE offer slightly higher impacts per minute with 0-4000IPM and the M12 SURGE at 0-3400IPM. Both impacts deliver 450 ft-lbs of torque and a maximum RPM of 3000. - Milwaukee Tool Social Team

            Light weight and high output
This Milwaukee 12 Volt battery is very light weight and has a high output in when used on a 12 Volt Milwaukee tool. They are lightweight and allow for use in a tool where use requires a strain on the arm, such as when having to reach out one to two feet off a ladder to use the tool. I used my drill for on and off for about 3 hours then again for about one hour the next day and the battery still had adequate power. After the two days of use I recharged the battery and it took about 2-2.5 hours to complete its charge. I would recommend this battery for use with all Milwaukee 12-volt products.

REMOVES EASILY; POWERFUL FOR ITS SIZE; COMPACT
The Milwaukee M12 12-Volt Lithium-Ion XC High Output 2.5 Ah Battery Pack is another example of the improvements that Milwaukee has been making to its batteries. Although the major advantage of this battery is that it has the same power and run time as that of an XC battery, for me the biggest improvement is that I can easily remove it from a tool. With my previous M12 batteries, it was always a crap shoot - sometimes easy, mostly difficult. I don’t know if Milwaukee purposely intended to make this battery easier to remove but its casing is slightly different from my other batteries as you can see in the photo. I have now used the 2.5 Ah battery in several M12 tools without any issues. Over the summer, my most used M12 tool has been the jobsite fan. This 2.5 Ah battery has adequately powered the fan and its compact size is a plus. The battery charged quickly. It is also helps to have another M12 battery. Since most of my M12 tools were acquired tool only, one more M12 battery reduces the need to rotate batteries among the greater number of M12 tools. The battery is made in China.

            Always need a spare!
Can’t live without a spare! Sometimes you are in some tight spots, like working underneath your truck on the suspension and large tools can hinder your abilities. The entire Milwaukee M-12 tools definitely fill that spot. I needed a spare M-12 battery for my Milwaukee electric ratchet that I use very frequently. Of course, for heavy work, I have M-18 tools, but for everything else, the M-12 is a winner. Another M-12 tool I use a lot in tight spaces is my little Milwaukee vacuum. I don’t like dragging an 8 foot hose through my truck, so I can take the little M-12 vacuum right inside with me. Cleaning the dash, floorboard, underneath the seats, and in the back of my access cab, it’s so much easier. Now, I can always have on on the go, and one on the charger.

            Added power without the bulk.
My review of the Milwaukee - Milwaukee M12 12-Volt Lithium-Ion XC High Output 2.5 Ah Battery Pack. This battery seems to work as advertised. Runs as long or longer than a 3.0 mah regular battery appears to be about the same size slightly lighter weight . When running longer periods of time the battery stays cooler. These will work better when I wear them in my heated jacket without the bulk.

Same Power and Runtime of M12 XC Batteries in Smaller, Lighter M12 CP Format
This is one tough little battery. The M12 REDLITHIUM CP2.5 was designed to have the same oomph as the larger M12 REDLITHIUM XC batteries, but still be compact and lightweight--the main selling point of the M12 line. To test out the power and durability of the CP2.5 I got out my M12 FUEL Hammer Drill and an 1/2" Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE Carbide Hammer Drill Bit. I wanted to see how many 1/2" holes I could punch through a solid 4" cement retaining wall block on one charge in rapid succession. After the first twelve holes or so the LEDs on the Hammer Drill started flashing and the Hammer Drill stopped. This was the CPU of the Brushless Hammer Drill going into Thermal Protection Mode. I could feel through my gloves the butt end of the tool getting warm, but not hot. I waited about half a minute and started drilling again. The Thermal Protection Mode kicked in three times while drilling the 34 holes, each time I waited about 30 seconds before continuing with the hammer drilling. On the last hole the 4 indicator LEDs flashed an alternating pattern and the last hole was drilled in short spurts--this is the CPU's "Finish Operation" Feature where the battery just doesn't stop, it allows you to finish the last hole without having to back out the drill by hand. Nice Feature! All in all this battery performed very well. This was an obvious Torture Test to see if the battery actually performed as promised. I believe it proved itself. 5 Stars.

            Always us batteries
I have many Milwaukee M12 power tools that us this type of battery. I often use the tool and have to wait for the battery to recharge. This Milwaukee 12 volt battery come with a charger that charges batteries quickly. I now charge the battery as I am using a tool and I always have a charged battery. The battery can be stored in my carrying case when ever I need to take it somewhere.

            Great battery
These 12 volt batteries are great. They hold a charge for quite a long time. I can work with the drill all day and it still doesn't run out. The 12 volt batteries don't have a fuel gauge on them but the drill have the gauge on the side. A charger come with it. It's only a 12 volt charger not tlike the other chargers can charge 18 volt as well as 12 volt.
