About This Product

The SharkBite Heat Guard 160 is a superior performance Thermostatic Mixing Valve that mixes hot water with cold to deliver tempered water at a constant temperature. The SharkBite Heatguard 160 is intended to supply controlled temperature hot water to any outlet requiring a higher level of protection. The valve is third party listed for individual point-of-use applications. The SharkBite Heatguard 160 features a rapid response thermostatic element for superior control. The thermostatic element senses the outlet water temperature and reacts to maintain a constant delivery temperature even under changing flows or variations in supply temperatures or pressures. The valve also reduces the outlet flow to a trickle in the event of a cold water supply failure.

Q:Can I instal this where my hot water comes out of my hot water heater? And is this like a normal mixing valve but with higher temperatures? I'm trying to get hot water that last longer across my house without buying a new water heater.

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Harley, The SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass Heat Guard 160 Thermostatic Mixing Valve can be mounted on the hot side of your water heater. The maximum temperature of this valve is 120 Fahrenheit. We do have other products that will work better in your application. I've attached a link below to the recommended valve. If you have any more questions you can call tech support at 877-700-4242. (https://www.cashacme.com/us/en/thermostatic-mixing-valves/tank-booster-pro) Kind regards,

A:  The SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass Heat Guard 160 Thermostatic Mixing Valve will not be the correct size to connect to a 3/4" water line. Q:What is the difference between this valve and the sharkbite 24549?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi, SharkBite 3/4 in. Brass Heat Guard 160 Thermostatic Mixing Valve's use is intended for Domestic and Commercial point-of-use. The Heatguard 160 is intended to control the water temperature to individual or multiple fixtures such as sinks, lavatories, or bath tubs to reduce the risk of scalding and thermal shock. It can also be installed in gang shower applications where the bather has no access to the temperature adjustment means. The 24549 is a Masterguard 830 and it's intended use is Commercial and industrial facilities to distribute controlled temperature water to the domestic hot water system of the entire building or a section of the building. I've attached the spec sheet for both. If you have any more questions you can call tech support at 877-700-4242. Very expensive, and it leaked. I use sharkbite products often, and this one was faulty. I connected it to the copper pipe in 2 locations, and then to pex. Leaked in each situation. Not happy considering the price, and the difficulty in returning it.

The valve evens out the temp from variable pressure and a demand H2O heater, but the output H2O temp is 20 degrees below the highest possible temp. The shower is warm but only with all hot H2O on the shower valves. Turning on the cold at the shower makes it to cold to shower. I have the blender valve turned up as far as it goes, but with the long run to the shower from the hot H2O, it's barely warm enough to shower. This will not work in the winter when outside temp drops. The valve doesn't work properly and is a waste of money. The quality control from this manufacturer is poor at best.

The issues we were trying to resolve was way too hot domestic water from the furnace and an old non pressure balancing valve in the shower. This product solved both issues. The water temperature was set to approximately 108 degrees F. We run all hot water in the shower. No more blasts of changing water temperature when a faucet is opened somewhere else in the house. The SharkBite fittings work very well. Removing the inserts that are shipped in the fitting for PEX tubing wasn't as easy as the instructions implied. However, they do pull out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
