Does this ladder have to be fully extended to use as a extension ladder?

Need a 22 ft for outside but a 15 ft for inside. Does the extension ladder have adjustments, or do I have to always extend it to it's maximum height?

I bought this ladder 3 years ago and the other day when I coming down the ladder it failed. I am no where close to the weight limit. the sides gave out and it buckled. Called Werner and they could of cared less. Instead of replacing the ladder they basically said take a hike. below are images of the ladder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I have owned this ladder for about a year. The pins that lock the sliding sections of the ladder ... I have owned this ladder for about a year. The pins that lock the sliding sections of the ladder in place are cheap, they are bending and I no longer fell comfortable extending the ladder. That is when I can, the pivot point on one side is so hard to move that to get it in and out of position I need a hammer. I have tried to lubricant it with no luck. If you need a multi position ladder I would recommend going with something different. I am looking at a little giant, they may be more money but a coworker of mine has one and had a issue with it after 4 years. They sent it to little giant and they repaired it at no charge. Werner doesn't even want to talk to you when you call them about the problems with these ladders. ( This is a common complaint noted in multiple reviews) Long story DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have worked with this ladder for years and could not... Have worked with this ladder for years and could not believe the price so I finally bought one for myself. Yes, it is a bit heavy, but the many uses you get from ONE ladder is worth the weight and set up. Need to get that light going down the stairs. You can safely place it on two stairs and feel safe that you can get the job done. Getting on a roof is easier, painting that wall going down the stairs is a breeze, and changing that odd light is all made easier. I am in no way close to 200lbs, so the 300 lbs limit means I can bring stuff up the ladder if need be. Best thing is it folds down and easy to store! The construction of this ladder should out last my use for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good price for average product Price is substantially lower than the Little Giant ladders, so that is a pro. I had used my bro-in-laws Little Giant 22 ft multi-use ladder and was very handy. So much so, that I figured I needed to invest in one for myself. I read reviews and shopped around and i thought i would take a chance on the lower rated product for a lower price. it is not as smooth. the locking mechanism sometimes gets stuck. Not as smooth and easy to manuever as the other brand. But I probably use a ladder about 15 times per year, so Im willing to take the tradeoff. However, if I was using it on a daily basis, I would probably opt for the lighter but more expensive one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with this ladder I have only had this ladder for a few weeks, so I can't give it a long term review. Initial impressions are very good. It's solidly constructed (even though it's not welded like more expensive ones from other manufacturers), is easy to use, and is very solid when I'm standing on it. === PROS: * well priced * very functional * strong * stores easily * does everything I need === CONS: * it's not a 22' ladder, it's 18' at max extension * the locking mechanism is a bit awkward to use (the competition seems like it is easier) * doesn't have wheels (a price point limitation) * doesn't have built-in feet levelers (another price point limitation)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ladder! I have been very pleased with this ladder. It is very strong, easy to use, and the quality of the material feels like it will last forever. Used it for hanging Christmas lights, cutting tree limbs on a hill, etc. The only downside is that when fully extended, it becomes very unwieldy. With a regular extension ladder, you put the feet in place and use the rope and pulley to extend it to the desired height. With this ladder, you need to set the height and then put the ladder in place, and when it's over 20 feet long (and fairly heavy), this is tough to do. Other than that, the price is right, the quality is top notch, and it stores in half the space of my old extension ladder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavier than it looks, but sturdy. Pros: Compact storage and transport. Wide foot spacing for stability. Solid feel when extended. Cons: Folks who haven't used one before are often deceived by its weight. It's not overly heavy, it just looks lighter than it is -- be sure to warn people who may want to borrow it. It's also awkward for people the first couple of times they try to use it without any help. Other: Remember that "22 ft" is a marketing term based upon the extended length of the ladder plus the reach of an average height male. This type of misleading spec is common to all ladder manufacturers I know. If you take this into consideration, then you'll end up with the ladder you need.
