At last a stud sensor that works ! After endless frustration with an earlier Zircon model and a Stanley, both hopeless, the e50 almost always gets the job done. When you hit the edge of the stud you get a clear indication on the monochrome display and an LED projects a red arrow on the wall - magic !.
Good instructions although printed in small font (download the pdf version from the Zircon web site, much easier to read and you don't have to store more paper). Also Zircon has several helpful videos on YouTube.
Unit feels solid in your hand and uses quality materials.

specifically bought this to find studs under carpet to stop squeeks with the snap off screws.
It does work and worked great for me. I have a very short pile carpet and the directions say to find a thin piece of cardboard, use the deep scan setting and press hard on the cardboard on the carpet. worked like a charm. so now i am fixing every squeek in my house. not wasting any more snap off screws due to misses.
i would highly recommend for this purpose.. if it works through carpet padding, sub floor it will surely work on walls. worth every penny spent.. get a good 9 volt battery!!

I really like this product. My step son had one that we used at his home in Houston. So my wife decided to get me one once we got home. So she looked online and ordered it

I assumed that using a stud-finder would be very straight forward. For the most part, it is. There was one symbol that appeared on the screen that I didn't recognize and it looked like I needed to change it to "deep scan". I later found out that the message was to tell me that there was electrical current when I was searching. Luckily, I didn't go for that spot. Always good to read the instructions beforehand!
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. It does exactly what it is intended for with making it easy to find studs. A little pricey in my opinion, but I'm happy with the purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WillDIY Great value and works perfect for the non-perfessional.
I had another cheaper stud sensor and it was junk. I went and grabbed myself the E50 by Zircon and it was simple, very accurate, the ergonomic design keeps it from slipping from your hand, the Voltage detector helped me avoid a live wire, and I was done with my DIY job within 5 minutes of opening the box compared to the headache I received from the other one.
For the price it's not going to be a "rock solid" made device and you probably should not drop it on anything other than carpet, but its perfect for the small home projects and I could not be happier.
!!!! USES A SINGLE 9VOLT !!!!!!
That will save you a trip back to the store, because the package is poorly labeled for which battery to buy and is in small print on the back.

This product works well as long as there's no electrical wiring in the wall where you're looking for a stud. If there is, all you'll get is a constant beep and you won't be able to find the stud. It may be good to detect wiring in the wall, but I wouldn't buy another stud sensor like this again unless the electrical warning feature could be turned off.

I needed to mount three 8 foot florescent lights on my garage. The problem was that the ceiling was very thick, (Living space above) and a borrowed stud sensor thought the whole ceiling was a stud. I got the e50 Stud Sensor and found the studs and an electrical wire within minutes. A very satisfying result; a product that works as advertized,
