A:  Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. A flat head screwdriver should be all you need to remove this item. Using caution (as you may be required to stand on a step stool or ladder with a screwdriver in hand), pry the flat head tip under the rim of the ball catch and pry it upwards carefully. A:  Another option. If you are replacing the same product because it failed, you can simply completely unscrew the threaded sleeve that holds the ball and spring and swap it with the new one. This sleeve screws in and out and is how you adjust the ball tension against the plate.

A:  Just did this today. The ball bearing had come out of my old drive-in ball catch. I pulled the spring out with pliers. There was a brass "X" at the bottom of the casing. Used mini needle nose pliers to pull the casing out of the door by grabbing part of the "X" with the pliers. It came right out easy!
