Hard to stain, weird grain

Door width is oversized for standard door opening, so expect to plane it to fit. Also, the plastic between the grid is really difficult to cut out cleaning. Expect to caulk everything grid to conceal the backside that paint could not reach to conceal.

Quality. Classic. Beautiful

While the door is nice, each section of glass is completely wrapped with a clear plastic cover. It is literally impossible to remove the plastic from the windows. You will have to spend hours upon hours trying to remove the plastic and then have to repaint the doors if you chose to paint in the first place. Very disappointed.

Overall the door was good quality and well made. The problem was finishing the door with a dark stain. The glass panels are covered on both sides with protective plastic sheet. It was a pain to cut around the wooden grid and remove this plastic sheeting. Bits still remained between the glass and the wood grid members no matter how much we tried to pick it out. The remaining bits did not allow the dark stain that we applied to soak in behind the grid. So after removing our tape masking there were several areas of unstained wood. We used an artists brush to try to put stain in these areas, but the small remnants of that plastic didn't allow all of them to accept the stain. These are visible from both sides of the door. If you're using a dark stain, be aware of this problem. A natural or lighter stain wouldn't be as obvious. I don't know why they would protect the glass in this manner. It isn't as susceptible to marring like an acrylic would. If the manufacturer would remove the plastic coatings prior to assembly it would allow the stain to permeate these areas.

This door is cheap quality and the glass panels rattle.

The doors were a bit warped so they don't meet squarly. Our contractor didn't check this before he painted them so we didn't know. Word to the wise... ask your contractor to ensure they aren't warped or check it yourself.
