There are a few things you can do to paint/stain to ensure it sprays well.
1 - Stir the paint/stain with a mixer in a drill until its creamy smooth, about 1 min per gallon
2 - Strain the paint/stain before it goes into the sprayer
3 - Add a flow agent, like Floetrol or Paint Easy (this is not a thinner) for latex paint – Penetrol for oil based
4 - Or you can thin, even as little as 5% can make a big difference, water for water based materials and mineral spirits for oil based material. Up to 20% is fine.

Also, the Control Stainer series are designed for spraying thin bodied materials, like stain. Unthinned paint will struggle. Our Flexio HVLP series are meant for thicker, latex paints for around the house projects. Contact us directly with any other questions at 1-800-328-8251.

Thanks for your review. You can lubricate the foam seal with some petroleum jelly or mineral oil and it might swell up and seal better.

The first thing to do to any thick material you want to spray is to use a mixer in a drill to stir it up. After about 1 minute per gallon, the material's consistency will change and will look smooth and creamy. This will spray better. Good luck with your projects.

Thank you for your review and we're sorry you are not happy with the sprayer. The iSpray Nozzle/front end that comes with the sprayer will spray most stains unthinned. It is ideal for big surface projects such as spraying walls, sheds, fences and will give you a roller-like or slightly stippled finish. There is a learning curve so test the sprayer with water first, It is cheaper to experiment with than paint. Play with the flow control which will help you get use to the adjustment so when you add your coating it will take less time to get use to it. Depending on the thickness of your coating usually want to start a test pattern with the flow control at it's lowest setting, or close, and slowly turn the flow control up a little at a time until you are getting a good pattern. Strain your coating and make sure it is mixed up very well. The better it is mixed up the better it will spray. I cannot stress how important these two things are. Make sure the end of the nozzle is no more than 6”-8” away from what you are spraying. If you need to add water or paint conditioner (like Paint Easy by Wagner, it's sold at most paint stores or home centers). Add a little at a time, you can always add more but you can’t take away.
