Fantastic primer and sealer for new drywall
I saw a bunch of the negative reviews and it made me think twice about buying it, but some of them didn't make sense. This is a fantastic primer sealer for new drywall. It's very easy to apply, in my case I used a sprayer. I think a lot of people must have applied this without stirring or shaking, because of all the claims of it being watery. It isn't. Like most flats, it takes a while to dry. I posted pictures from one half hour, 1 hour, 2 hours and 4 hours for comparison.

    Perfect primer and garage/basement paint
Too Many complaints about poor coverage. It’s a primer!! Doesn’t need to give total opaque coverage. I used it to prime my unpainted drywalled garage. Then applied a second coat as paint since it’s just a gargage it worked perfectly with total coverage. Saved a lot of coin on paint using this for both coats. Garage is so bright now I almost need shades on to work in there !!

      Worst PRIMER EVER
TERRIBLE! The worst primer ever. Doesn’t cover jack squat. I’m putting on GOBS of primer on the roller and it barely covers 2 feet. Look at the photos. Look at how much product I have on my roller and it barely covered anything On that wall. Such a waste. Returning and will NEVER recommend this EVER! Stay far away from this GARBAGE

I am impressed with the coverage and hide of this primer. I used on both new drywall and previously painted walls. It adhered well and hid most of the marks (crayon, pencil and pen) with just one pass. A very economical paint with great results.

        Best for the money
I have hung drywall and painted in many rooms of my house. This stuff is the best I have found. I am a big fan of Glidden. This primer went on and covered in 1 coat. I bought (2) 5 gallon buckets figuring I would have to double coat before paint. I returned (1) 5 gallon as I completed this room and still have 1/3rd of the bucket left. This room is 17ft X 25ft. I primed walls and ceiling. Some of the blotchy spots in the photo are the sections that were not dry yet. Entire product dried relatively fast, about 20 minutes. No smell at all. Product is the best. You would be wasting your money if you purchase anything else. Keep in mind this is for newly installed drywall. It's for sealing the drywall for paint. I did use this over 1 section of the drywall that was painted and it covered fine but I could see covering an already painted wall with primer made for the purpose of covering paint.

I used this primer on new drywall for an added room in my basement. It worked best for me by applying 2 coats. The first coat went on and did not spread far (due to it being new walls) and it was see-through as it dried. I Let it dry for 40 min to an hour then went over it again. The second coat went on thicker, spread further and completely covered the walls. I did not have it tinted. It's white out of the can but it appeared to go on with a slightly bluish tint so it wasn't impossible to see where it had been applied and where it had not, though this is not one of those primers that goes on with a color that is obvious to see then dries white (I saw one advertised to go on pink and dry white). I used 5 gallons to do 2 coats on a 12'x11' room with 8 foot walls and a medium/large closet. I'm very happy with this product and would use it again.

Very, very good product. I decided to use this brand primer since we did all the basement and the money were tight. I am not sorry at all. Very good coverage on the new dry walls, with only one coat.See the pictures. Just want to point that this is mostly for new dry wall (PVA), use 3/4 na, and wait to dry completely.

This primer went on smooth. My fresh drywall soaked it up and sealed great. The paint was so easy to roll on top of it and only needed one coat. I was impressed how nice and easy and quick this paint job went. I will use it again.

We used it 5 years ago and we like to keep the label and information now we decided to paint again and we bought the same primer, because we thought it was very adhesive after the final paint after using the first Glidden PVA Drywall. We recommend.

Awesome drywall primer and sealer, especially as it is priced low. This is the paint to choose for first primer on a new drywall project with uncovered drywall mud and taping. It will feel watery and will look terrible as you apply it. Just give it 2 or 3 hours and will look great, and ready for your finish paint color. Received the next layer of paint very well. Could not believe it was the cheapest PVA primer avaiable and did such an awesome job!!

You Get What You Pay For! I used GLIDDEN1 gal. Latex PVA Drywall Interior Primer & Sealer to prime sanded joint compound before applying tub surround adhesive with a notched trowel per the plastic tub surround manufacturer's installation instructions. The product label says it's tintable, so I had the Home Depot paint associate add 1/2 oz of black universal colorant and shake the can to make it a soft gray to better gauge coverage of the primer and subsequent top coat. I wiped down the finished joints with a slightly damp rag to remove any residual sanding dust, and let it dry overnight before applying the primer. I let the primer coat dry several days before I got around to masking the edges where I needed to trowel on the tub surround adhesive. After applying the adhesive, I peeled off the masking tape before pressing the plastic panels onto the adhesive. Some of the primer came off with the masking tape and when I used a damp rag to clean up any excess adhesive that oozed out, the primer wiped right off. It is not water proof or even water resistant. I'm not sure what will happen when I attempt to top coat it with the first coat of gloss latex (water base) paint. I should have stuck with Zinzer Bull's Eye 1.2.3 water-base - Interior & Exterior Primer for all surfaces, which is water resistant. Sadder but wiser - lesson learned :(

              Response from GliddenNov 1, 2017
Hi there, Typically joint compounds will need to be cured for 30 days, or have a pH below 10 before priming. Additionally, water based paints can take up to 30 days to fully cure. When removing tape, it is a good practice to score the edges. The situation is that the joint compound possibly was at too high of a pH being primed with a water based product and not allowed to properly set up fully before taping, washing. We'd like to discuss this more with you, so we can gather more details and offer you a solution. Please call us at 1-800-GLIDDEN. Glidden

The paint pro at Home Depot tried to talk me into a premium product that was almost twice the price as this, but after reading these reviews, I went with this Glidden PVA. I had a large area of new drywall to cover and did not want to roll or brush, so I bought a couple bottles of Floetrol to thin it out and applied with a siphon air sprayer - the results were wonderful! IMPORTANT: This applies semi-transparent with a slight orange peel texture. But it self-levels and turns a matte white as it dries. Apply only until the surface is wet otherwise you'll get runs. The mud and drywall will be seen through the wet PVA until it dries. (Glidden may want to clarify this in the instructions on the bucket so customers don't over apply.) There were a few blemishes in the drywall that I did see when mudding. Also a few run marks. After fixing and sanding, I sprayed again and it blended in fine with the existing coat. Other than afew touch-ups, I did not need a second coat. Clean-up was a simple as warm soapy water. Great product!!

Easy to apply, dries quick, fantastic results for the price
We just remodeled out bathroom and used the green mold resistant drywall. Due to the color differences between the white drywall mud and the green drywall surface decided to use a drywall primer on the new drywall after it had been taped, mudded and sanded. We applied this primer with an airless sprayer with a .015 tip and got great results in no time. After covering up the bathtub and cement board walls and the floor it probably took around 15 mins to spray the ceiling and walls in our 12x8 bathroom. We got through exactly 1 gallon of the primer for this project so the coverage is around 250-300 square feet when sprayed. We just stirred the paint, put the sprayer tube in it and sprayed it on, there were no lumps or splatter in the finish either. Since we were looking for a super smooth 'Level 5' wall finish I thought I would need to sand it afterwards however we were able to apply the top coat of Behr interior satin enamel about 2-3 hours later and the job was done in a day. The primer did a great job of allowing the top coat of paint to go on with a consistent color and finish and the end result looks fantastic. The only comment I would make is that if you're planning on spraying it onto white drywall mud, you might want to tint the primer to the top coat you're using as it will be easier to see where you have or haven't sprayed. Unlike some of the other reviews, we didn't see any change in the texture of the primer while it was drying although you could see the spray pattern while it was wet/partially drying. These lines disappeared when it had dried as can be seen from the attached before, during and after pictures.
