Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing quality select pine boards I needed to make a face frame for a single 7' tall cabinet that will be painted, and rather go to the local lumber yard, I decided to see if Home Depot had some decent poplar or pine that would work for the face frame. I was amazed at the quality of the select pine boards at my local Home Depot. When I think of pine, I imagine the very light, almost white colored wood that invariably has some knots in it, is typically warped to some extent, and is very soft. I don't know wood sub-species at all, but these boards seem like an entirely different species of pine than what I'm used to. They are a beautiful tan with nice light brown grain running vertically along the board. Not a single sign of a knot anywhere in this wood. The boards were all perfectly smooth with nice sharp corners and almost all of the boards on the rack were nearly perfectly straight with zero warping. They were all gorgeous. I used mostly 1 x 2 for the face frame, but used one piece of 1 x 4 for the bottom of the frame near the floor. I cut the wood on my DeWalt miter saw and assembled the 7' tall frame using pocket screws. After assembling the entire frame, I checked to see if it was square. It was 100% PERFECTLY square, down to the millimeter--exactly 2,263mm for both diagonals. I was in disbelief--I'll remember that number for a long time since I triple checked it to make sure I wasn't imagining things. The wood is so smooth I won't need to touch them with sandpaper. They are ready for primer and paint as-is. I am very impressed by the quality of the select pine boards. I'll happily buy them again instead of paying much more at my local lumber yard. May 15, 2015
