is this wood treated

Asked by: lisa
It has a redwood stain. I highly recommend that you treat the boards with an additional coat of Behr Water-Seal and Stain Combo. You can pick your choice of color and transparency.

I'm kicking myself for not reading these reviews before I bought this garbage. I was rebuilding an old fence, saw this in the store and figured they'd get the job done because Home Depot wouldn't sell junk. I was horribly wrong. After 3 weeks installed, boards are warped or cracking. It's too late to take the entire fence down, so now I'm forced fix it whenever one board goes bad. Which now forces me to buy even more of these horrible boards. And I know with each board I replace, I'm probably going to replace it with another equally garbage board. It a viscous abusive physical. DON'T BUY THESE. STAY AWAY

For the price, I expected to get a few slats that would warp and maybe twist to some extent. However, I didn't expected the slats to warp so much as to leave large holes in the fence, snap the screws holding them in place or snap in half. Put up approximately 720 slats and have had to replace approximately 10% of those. Still have some slats on the fence that have warped and will need to be replaced soon, fence is less than six months old. You can see the new slats in the back of the photo, the slats that need to be replaced are..... well, I am sure you will be able to figure that part out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I used this to add privacy to my patio The price was right, so I chose this wood to make my patio more private.... and it came out really nice. If the wood is a bit moist when you buy it, expect it to shrink a little. I had to sort though a lot of wood to get boards that were not bent or bowed, and I had to buy a few extra just in case.... and I did end up needing the extra wood to replace boards that ended up warping. However, for the most part, the wood I selected was pretty decent, and for my purposes it didn't have to be perfect. I am going to go over the wood eventually with a wood waterproof/protection so it will last longer. It was a fairly easy project to do, and I am happy with the results.

These pickets are pretty good for the price, they come already stained with a redwood color. I applied an additional coat of a Behr water-seal/redwood stain combination. Many reviews mentioned the amount of warping that these boards do - after just a couple of days. I built my fence in between some pretty heavy rain storms recently experienced here in San Diego County; my fencing material got completely drenched before, during and after I built my 60 ft. section of fence. The entire thing is finally drying-out since I finished building it about two weeks ago, it's showing no evidence of warping at all. I believe the two main reasons that I am not experiencing any warping is number one: I built the frame with the three cross rails (something this website recommended) and number two: I applied an additional coat of a Behr water-seal/stain to the frame and pickets. The only downside (4 stars instead of 5) is that you have to buy more material for the framing and more fencing screws (both for the third rail). Also, Douglass Fir is not naturally riot resistance like cedar or redwood, this is why it's important to use a good water-seal, something you'll have to re-apply every few years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy I installed 65 lineal feet of this fencing. The boards appeared to be nice and uniform. Installed on a Friday (as per directions) and the fence looked great. Nice and straight. Came back on the next Monday(3 days) to find at least 60 percent of the boards warped and twisted. Some boards shrunk as much as 2 inches. Fence looks 20 years old. Will never buy this product again. It should be removed from the shelves. I know it was the cheapest of boards, but it should of lasted at least the weekend! Save your money and buy Redwood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth the money! Installed 80 feet of fence with this product. Within 3 days a majority of the planks were warping and bowing out at the bottom. I used four screws per plank and it did not help much. Spend a little more and get a quality product. This stuff is junk!
