Hi Hank,
Thanks for taking the time to write in your question. The Redwood Oil-Latex Stain is not recommended to be applied over paint. You may be interested in using the Solid Color Wood Stain instead though; this stain can be used over oil and water base paint- as long as it's in good condition. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project!

Will this stain cover an old stained deck that has been pressure washed. Not all the old stain came off.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for your question! This particular stain is not designed for horizontal surfaces that will be walked on. You might be interested in using something like Behr's Solid Color Wood Stain instead, which is great on decks; it can also be applied over water and oil base stains that are in good condition. Hope this helps, and good luck on your project!

Hello Lulu,
We appreciate your interest in our wood stain! Yes, that's okay, as long as the primer's in good shape (free of peeling, wear, etc.).
Best wishes for your project!

Answer:
Oil based stains are different in that they penetrate into a surface. The stain would not be able to penetrate into the wood with primer. I would not recommend using this over primer.

Answer:
Hello Junie,
Thanks for your question. No, it's not meant to peel, crack or fade. As long as the surface prep and application is done per label instructions, it's been designed to stand up to exposures of water and UV rays.
Well wishes for your project!

Since then we've gone through many gallons on two decks & railings, a couple of fences and gates, and a chicken coop. Goes on easy and cleans up well. I think the first gallon I bought was 3 years ago and it's aging well. When it has been sitting it needs 5 minutes or so of stirring, but it's worth the hassle. Overall this is a great product for the price (if you like the color).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product at very reasonable price ! The price was great less than $10 a gallon. Used this on my ten year old pergola that was looking pretty rough. Application was very easy .It goes on like paint but dries like stain. No brush marks. One coat was enough but I did do two on the outside post and trim that receive all the weather.

I applied two coats and it is pretty opaque. Don't expect a furniture-like "stain". This is more like a somewhat thin paint. Based on other reviews, I had the paint dept. shake the can when I bought it, stir occasionally and had no problem with consistency or solids on the bottom. It applied easily with a cheap all purpose brush. It goes on redish when wet, but don't worry - it will dry to a nice brown-red traditional redwood color just like the picture on the can. Says oil-latex but cleans up with water. Can't comment on durability yet, but looks nice and overall I am well pleased.

Upon searching the shelves for a product to renew an old landscaping fence around my pool, I found this product. Prior this project, I had debated with myself about removing the fence. The price of this stain was great, it went on nice and smooth, dries in a few hours, and really made the old fence look new. To be clear, I pressure washed the old fence prior application. For now, I am giving this product four stars because the fence looks great. If the fence still looks good in five years, I would up this to ten stars since this product is nearly a third the price of other similar products. For readers, like any other paint or stain, don't let it "puddle" during application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value for a general purpose REDWOOD stain I had to cover a weathered shed that had a previous stain coating. As I looked at the reviews on this, I decided to give it a try. When you open the container, the stain looks decided redder than a redwood would be, and it is red when applied, but it dries to nice brownish red redwood tint. See my enclosed photo where the wood on the left is dried finish, the wood in the middle is as applied, and the unstained wood is on the right. Coverage was as I expected. My wood soaked in the stain, and some extra coats were needed. It applies like oil, but cleared up the brushes like latex. Good stuff.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Behr Redwood Stain - Extremely Poor I only purchase Behr paints and have previously used Behr redwood stain and wood protector. The previous paint was oil based and was a great product. This stain is pitiful. Took 3 coats just to cover the wood and scratches easily. This will never hold up in anyway like the old oil based product. This also use to be available in quarts. I used less than a quart and the balance is going to the landfill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still looks awesome after 15 years! I built my barn and a 60' fence using t111 siding, I painted the fence with this oil-latex redwood stain #9 and I painted the barn with Premium Behr latex paint in a barn red color... after 5 years my barn with barn red premium latex paint turned purple! This oil-latex redwood stain #9 on the fence still looked awesome... So somewhat discouraged I repainted my barn using Lowes Valspar premium latex paint in barn red... 6 or so years later it turned purple too!!! The fence is now about 15 years old and still has the original oil-latex redwood stain #9 and has not been repainted. The color is still perfect and overall still looks like it will last another 15 years. This is great stuff and an excellent product. I will be buying a whole lot more to cover my now "purple" barn for the final time. I decided to write this review because I couldn't remember what paint I had used on the fence... I was cleaning my loft out today and found 1-1/2 gallons of left over oil-latex redwood stain #9 from the fence project 15 years ago. Admittedly I am a pack-rat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from quality at a low price this stain is great, I was reluctant to use this product because it was so much cheaper than the others but salesman mentioned that his parents used it so I bought only one gallon to try it. I applied it to my fence with my compressor that made the job very quick and It only took one coat. AND the clean up was easy
