tough algae/mold

After hours of scrubbing with full strength, my deck still has blotches of black patches. I'm not using a power washer due to past damaging experience. So is there a spot cleaner? Do I break out bleach? My brush seems stout enough, just not getting tough areas clean. any reccos?
Asked by: deckdevil
I'd suggest a wire brush, bleach and a strong soap solution. Be sure to use one of those protective breathing masks over your nose and mouth; those deposits have nasty microbes. If that doesn't work, it means your deck was deeply penetrated by the mold and you may be looking at wood replacement.

Deck Over how long is it good for after application

Asked by: Anonymous
Dear loos, If the DECKOVER coating is applied according to label directions to a properly prepared, sound wood or concrete substrate, the film can be expected to last as long as a high quality Solid Color Wood Stain. BEHR Solid Color Wood Stains last 5 to 10 years on horizontal surfaces and 15 to 25 years on vertical surfaces. Please follow all label instructions. Thank you for posting your questions!

can it be used to clean algae stains from asphalt shingles roof?

After staining the house poplar siding a barn red, I want to paint my 7-yr old asphalt shingle roof (it's in very good condition) cuz it looks dowdy Also, the variegated brownish shingles' color does not go with the red. I intend to use Behr #436 Multi-surface Primer and Sealer and Behr multi-surface Roof Paint on the shingles, but the shingles must first be cleaned of what appears to be black algae stains. If this is the product to use, I'm concerned that it will damage the newly stained siding. Cover it with polyethelene sheets? I realize I'm doing this backwards...the roof should have been taken care of first, but didn't realize the contrast would be so glaring. If this is not the product to use to clean the roof, what Behr product will do the job? Thanx!

Hey rufous, You can absolutely use the Behr All-In-One Wood Cleaner for the roof. It won't harm the new stain, but I'd recommend to use it with a low pressure system, like a garden hose and/or scrub brush to get the job done safely. Covering the stained areas with a sheet won't be necessary, but make sure it gets as little contact with it as possible. If any get on it, be sure it is hosed off right away. In fact, the Behr Wood Cleaner is one of the very best and safest products we sell to clean the algae off your roof. Joseph

Do I use Wood Stain and Finish Stripper Before I use the Wood Cleaner product? Or After? Or not at all?

Asked by: Douglas
This cleaner was designed to clean bare wood. It contains a 10% Oxalic Acid Solution which is very corrosive. I would not use it at all. It is not a stripper.

Will this cleaner harm my trees & shrubs next to the fence?

Asked by: ADC63
Hi ADC63, Thanks for checking in! While this cleaner is biodegradable, direct contact could harm plants and trees. To protect those areas, I'd recommend placing drop cloths and wetting down the trees, shrubs and soil around your fence before and after application. The water will help dilute any product that lands on those areas. Best of luck with your project!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used this to clean my deck and clean my house I used this to clean my deck and then diluted it down and used it to clean my metal pole barn and garage doors and vinyl siding. Just spray it on and let it sit, almost never needs scrubbing but it is safe on colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job right. All-in-one Wood Cleaner is a fine product for removing dirt, grime, mold and moss from your deck. It can be an irritant, so apply carefully on a day without a stiff breeze. It's best applied with a sprayer. Don't let it sit too long, you want the surface damp when you scrub it. Wash the surface off after your done scrubbing it to clean off the residue. I wish I had a power washer to take advantage of the cleaner's loosing of mold and debris. My only complaint is I wish it came in a smaller size if you need a second application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Overall this cleaner worked wonderful!! My deck hadn't been touched in any way in at least 7 years, maybe not even since it was built 16 years ago. It was extremely weathered and dirty. Even had mossy patches and baked in years of dirt. It took a lot of elbow grease and two gallons of this deck cleaner, but my deck came out looking like new wood! The only challenge was keeping the wood wet with the cleaner the recommended 15 minutes. It kept wanting to dry so I filled a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of water/cleaner and kept misting the boards every so often. This did the trick.

I used this product diluted as directed as well as concentrated & it didn't perform great on a heavy weathered deck. It did lift some of the stuff, but when I used power washer after this cleaner that's what made the difference. This might be ok for some mildly weathered, however it requires a lot of pressure to get stuff off, so I would skip this & use a power washer right off the bat. Wasted the entire weekend believing this product would do what it claimed it would.
