I had carpal tunnel surgery a year ago and still don't have as much strength as I'd like in my hands. So far I don't need it using this tool. Cuts Schedule 40 PVC pipe like butter!

I bought this to cut through PVC pipe for a irrigation relocation project. I made many, many cuts running over 100 feet of line and I didn't have any issues with it at all. I cut through 1 inch, 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch PVC with no problems. I know Home Depot doesn't sell new blades for this model, but the price is so low, I'll just buy a new one when this one wears out. When cutting 1 inch PVC, it works best to score around your cut line 2-3 times before making the cut so the pipe won't crush. After cutting the pipe, the edges flair out a bit so I just took a file and filed them down so the caps would go on easily. I'd recommend this product.

I just finished cutting 3/4 inch Schedule 40 PVC piping with no problems with this BrassCraft tool. I originally bought the HDX ratcheting PVC cutter (at almost twice the price) but the blade bent badly after making just 6 cuts. I made more cuts than that today with the BrassCraft, and the blade still looks like new. I also like the way the bottom handle drops down while the blade is on top of the work, which made it easier for me to score the piping before making the final cut. My hands don't have the size or strength of a man, but this BrassCraft cutter helped me finish my home project without any fuss. Hopefully, Home Depot will continue to stock this dependable and reasonably priced tool.

I would agree with other customers that the "ratcheting closing mechanism" is slightly ineffective when cutting smaller diameter pipe ( I was cutting 1/2" white pvc schd 20 pipe). The latch was not catching on the last 2 steps of the mechanism. I was able to make due by twisting the pipe & slicing the pipe like a copper pipe cutter would (this cutter will be even more ineffective if the pipe is fixed in the ground.) All that being said I would purchase it again because it is inexpensive & I just needed it for a few cuts to save time; much faster & cleaner then the little saw I was using.

This is a great tool for projects up to 1". We used it for a Cub Scout project that required 174 cuts that were done with ease by our 9 - 10 yr old group. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles the $25 & $30 dollar ones but gets the job done just the same.

I needed one and did not have one so I when to HD and found a reasonable price pvc cutter. And man when I used it the first time, so simple that I felt like just a slighty underedge pro... my finish product I would give it an A. Great tool at a great price.. I will buy this again if this one every breaks but I doublt it.... it is worth it... remember you get what YOU PAY FOR. and you pay for this but you will always know why you spent the few extra single dollars with the 1st cut... thanks.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by thcomb Great metal handle, poor blade.
I've had these for about a year now and used them for many different PVC builds, DSLR stabilizing rigs, light stands, pipette racks for my research lab, and even regular household plumbing. The blade finally gave up and a chunk ripped out. I would think this was fine if I could find a replacement blade, but I'm having trouble doing so. If I have to replace the entire tool, I might as well buy elsewhere for half the price. They cut through PVC nicely as long as the blade holds up, otherwise I would give 1 star.
