STAY AWAY FROM THE SHARPENER !!! I have been using these pencils for years now and very rarely have a problem with them . i only had problems with them when using the sharpener. the lead seems to keep shattering inside . using a utility knife and having no more problems !!!! Good luck -and- Happy building...

The pencils are your standard carpenters pencil. The sharpener works a little too well in my opinion. By the time you have a sharp tip, you've cut through 1/8th of the pencil and the tip is left weak and ready to break. I recommend the pencils but do not recommend the sharpener, just use a utility knife to sharpen.

Day 1, I just got home opened the tube and thought ok lest get started. But after a couple of turns it just break and breaks and breaks. Am I missing something here? Insert end into sharpener, turn gently to expose lead point, do not over sharpen just like elementary school. BUT these lead pencils are the worst. For one, sticking an object shaped like this into a round pencil sharpener... umm. The lead tip always breaks off just inside the wood when using, as if every half inch of lead inside the pencil is broken. The sharpener is the thing out of the pack that I could use. If you have a round pencil then the sharpener will work. The only reason I got the pack is that the sharpener by itself was the same price and I though ok this is a deal.

Nice to always have a sharpened pencil within reach. Good pencils with great sharpener all in one package.

I have bought these pencils a few times now. Thought my first lot of pencils were handled to much and ended up breaking all the lead. Second lot, months later, I thought I would try one again. Same Problem. Lead would continue to break in small segments. You would continually have to sharpen your pencil till it was gone. lol. It was quite sad. I thought it was the sharpener but I sharpened it a few times very gently and same issue. Lead would break. When I did get a solid piece of lead, like others have reviewed, the tip would look like uneven ridges of a mountain. It would not draw a solid line when first using the pencil. These pencils are horrible.
