Should I use this on spackel recessed wall/plywood recessed wall?

I AM PLANNING TO INSTALL MARBLE SPLASH BACK AND TILE SURROUND INTO FORMER BATHROOM MEDICINE CABINET AREAS (2 AREAS). I CURRENTLY HAVE SPACKELED THE ONE BATHROOM CABINET AREA (POWDERY, NOT GOOD FOR LAYING TILE), AND PUT PLYWOOD INTO OTHER RECESSED MEDICINE CABINET AREA IN ADVANCE OF LAYING MARBLE, GLASS AND STONE TILE INTO THE RECESSED AREA BETWEEN STUDS.

QUESTION: DO I SIMPLY APPLY THIS PRIMER OVER THE SPACKLED/SANDED CABINET AREA, AND THEN WORK ON LAYING MARBLE TILE WITH MY LATEX-MODIFIED THINSET?

DO I ALSO SIMPLY APPLY THIS PRIMER OVER THE PLYWOOD BOXED AREA BEFORE I THEN LAY TILE OVER IT?

IS THERE ANOTHER STEP REQUIRED BEFORE LAYING THE TILE? (I CANNOT USE BACKER BOARD BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE WIDTH FROM BACKSPLASH TO OUTSIDE OF WALL TO DRIVE IN A 1" NAIL INTO BACKBOARD).

Thank you. Just to confirm, you don't think I need to put a sealant down first over this spackel? See the photo below. Can the thin set adhere strongly to spackel? Zhenya

Answer:
A latex modified mortar such as FlexBond can be used for your installation. Make sure the backsplash and surround plywood area are solid. LevelQuik is designed for use only on floors prior to be leveled.

Answer:
I'm not a professional tile man. If I understand your question correctly I can think of no reason to use this primer on your project. As long as your substrate is structurally sound your modified latex thinset should do the job. This primer is intended to help bond self-leveling compound, a very watery mix.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Seems to be a good product Used this under self leveling floor mix and also under shower pan mud. Haven't had any issues with bond. Not sure what would happen if you didn't use this stuff, but is recommended. Kinda expensive. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super easy to apply and appeared to help Our concrete basement floor was painted, with a latex paint (we think - previous owner painted). We applied this primer before applying the self-leveler and it went on very easy without incident. It is a milky white to start with and much thinner than paint. I like that it was milky white because you can see where you have put it. The first time, I used a roller on a long handle and a roller pan. The second time (we had to do our underlayment in phases) I just poured it on the floor and used the roller to spread it around. Considering the amount of money we invested in the underlayment, I wouldn't risk installing it without this relatively inexpensive primer. September 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WORKED GREAT GREAT COVERAGE, EASY TO APPLY. WORKS JUST AS ADVERTISED. August 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Seems to work I cleaned the floor and brushed on the LEVELQUIK primer. I let it dry overnight and poured the self-leveling compound. I guess it worked as advertised... How can you tell? June 2, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall simple prep product This is the required primer to use with levelquik self leveling product. It was very straight forward to apply and it was easy to track where it was put down as it was applied. September 4, 2013
