Para Chunky with Fringe Natural 4 ft. x 6 ft. Area Rug

I was hoping this 2 ft. x 8 ft. neutral-colored, natural jute runner would be the perfect solution for the dark, new wood floor we installed in our hallway. While it is an attractive blend of tans, golds, and light browns, it is the thickness and coarse texture that is problematic. It has a rough, scratchy texture that is uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet or socks. Even with shoes on it has a thicker edge to the runner and fringe that felt like a trip hazard. I was always picking my feet up to step on it and walk down the hallway. It did not slide around and require a pad underneath like I thought it would, but it will definitely be moved to a shoes-only location out in the garage in front of the workbench. Looks can be deceiving.

The rug seems well made. On a whole the rug has some good spring to it, but the texture is a bit rough in a couple of places for bare feet. for our application by the mudroom this is not an issue. Something that will be a concern is that it will slide around the floor so I am going to need to get rubber grip pad for under it. Our door slides over it without concern but the rug is thick enough I can't say if that will be the case for everyone. It does have a smell out of the packaging but that should dissipate fairly quickly.

Para Chunky with Fringe Natural 2 ft. x 8 ft. Runner Rug This rug arrived in perfect shape, on time, rolled up and plastic-wrapped at my front door. The weave was a bit chunkier than I expected from the photo, but it looks great in a casual, country or rustic setting. While it does seem like there may be a preferred top side, one could reverse the rug easily and it would still look good. Cleaning will be with a normal vacuum and spot cleaning. It does not appear to be a good candidate for machine washing. The overall look is a somewhat loose weave of thick rope-like jute fibers. The thick fringe at both ends also reflects the chunky jute used. The hint of the natural jute aroma from the fibers reminds me of years past. Nothing artificial here. I tried it out in a few hallways and decided that it fit best over a worn carpet in our finished basement to help tie things together, warm up the space, and hide imperfections underneath. No padding is needed here. It is fairly thick, so even on bare floors padding would not be required, but might help to prevent any slippage. The bumpy feel is a natural and earthy texture, which might be slightly harsh on bare feet or for crawling babies, but otherwise substantial. The color has a mix of light, medium and darker natural shades of warm brown that goes well in my space that features a beige couch and nature images. Because of the neutral color palette, I considered placing it in other locations, since it could fit in many spaces. However, I decided against a place where a door opens onto the runner, the thickness is such that it does not work. I also considered it for a hall outside a bath, but decided the texture on bare feet would not be ideal. Overall it is a pleasing addition with a natural character.
