Hi!

Can I directly apply drywall over this product? I need the r-3 value of your foam sheathing product to
achieve the R-39 on the roof required on a second floor remodel where the attic is being converted to livable space. The total R-value currently for the roofing, wall board, and insulation is R-37.5 I need R--39. Your foam would give me the total R value of 40.5 (current R- 37.5 plus R - 3), well above the minimum of R - 39.

Thanks

Answer:
Yes, you can install drywall directly over this product. You'll just need suitably long drywall screws to anchor the drywall through the insulation and into the ceiling framing.

First I recommend determining code requirements for vapor barriers, as you did R-value. First I recommend determining code requirements for vapor barriers, as you did R-value. If you are using a Kraft Faced fiberglass in your application, it must be in direct contact with the back of the drywall. Most common application I've seen is installing the Foamular between the roof joists directly against the back of the roof deck first, unless baffels/ventilation are present. You would also need to caulk and seal around the perimeter of each piece of Foamular to ensure an air tight seal. Then a Kraft Faced insulation would be installed over the Foamular. If you're using an Unfaced insulation within the cavity first, and are then are installing the Foamular over the joists, unfortunately I do not have any specific installation recommendations. I would just recommend staggering seams, and taping the joints with OC Joint SealR tape specially designed for our Foamular. When installing the drywall, you would just need to ensure your screws penetrate through the Foamular through the joists a Minimum of 3/4". Stagger the seams off-set with the seams of the Foamular. This method is pretty involved, and if you're not familiar with this type of application, I strongly suggest you contact a contractor who can assist you. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Used for birthday party decorations I bought 3 of these sheets for my sons first birthday party! It was a jungle/safari themed and I sent them out to my friends bf to paint some animals. He did a mural/background typed n I used it as a backdrop for the chocolate fountain table. The other two were giraffes that I put on bushes since the party was on our backyard. This year doing a Mickey Mouse themed n I'm going to buy some of these sheets!! March 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Used for new application Used this to temporarily cover a hole in the ceiling while we wait for spring to do roof repairs. Board very light, easy to screw into studs, completely waterproof. Much easier to use than plywood or drywall and much sturdier than a plastic sheet! Also kept the room warm! March 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by foam sheeting I love this stuff, it has a great color! I love pink, but seriously, this stuff is as soothing to place against a wall as it is too look at! It seals perfectly, last forever, and is so cleanto work with. We love using this for all our insulating work, and prefer it for the price to the other options. We have a notable difference in the heating and cooling benifits it makes, and our lives are richer because of the clean and effective insulating factor it has. August 23, 2010
