Customer Questions & Answers

can you paint an entire car with this

hi im interested in painting my entire car using multiple cans and layers of this. will it work and stick to the car? and how long will it last? also is this washable ?
Asked by: shaq
While it is completely possible I saw some images of someone that used these spray cans to dip his entire car and it turned out awful. If you plan to dip your whole car go to dipyourcar's website and buy it in the gallons as you need much more to get a good coverage.

I have a leak in a plastic gas tank on my car , will this seal it and not be eaten away by the gaas ?

Asked by: hashmike
You are dealing here between a life and death situation here. It is very risky to gamble in trying to repair a cracked or leaking gas tank that holds gasoline. If this is in the gasket area where the fuel gauge reader is installed, use only proper gasoline-approved gasket seal obtainable from automotive stores. Do you remember the Ford Pinto cars? They had gas tanks problems that were installed improperly and many had died from car accidents that were hit from the rear of Pintos. If you need to repair a gas tank, then don't be cheap, and get a new OR a used, but good gas tank either from a junk yard or automotive stores, or even thru ebay where they really have some good deals.

Can I spray this on the back of indoor/outdoor rugs to make them non-skid?

Asked by: GB
There is a specific product called SUPER GRIP also made by the PLASTI DIP. IT was made as a non-skid coating to be applied to rugs and other fabric items.

Customer Reviews

11 oz. Black Rubber Coating Spray is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from You have to buy the right PlastiDip product for your application. I read mostly positive reviews, but one reviewer said he had a bad experience coating his tool handles with it, and ended up removing it from all his tools. For tool handles, you have to buy the CAN OF LIQUID PlastiDip and actually dip the handles into the liquid, which is much thicker than the aerosol product. I bought the aerosol to re-coat the rubber coating on my (expensive) work gloves. It took about three coats to soak into the fabric and form a protective layer. The result looks and feels okay, a bit on the stiff side, but I have yet to try them at work on Monday. It feels like the grip is there, but as I said they're a bit stiffer than they were originally. I'm surprised to read that some reviewers used it as a spray paint for the trim on their vehicles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on S10 Wheels... I purchased 2 cans from one of your local stores and this stuff works great for many thing. Seen a few videos on YouTube for using this to coat truck wheels and it worked out GREAT on my S10. 2 cans was just enough to do 4 - 15" wheels in 4 coats each. Just be sure to CLEAN whatever you are coating first! Best part besides price - NO SANDING REQUIRED!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will buy again - color very true to black Project: 2012 GMC Canyon Mission: Chrome blackout and personal touch While Plastidip and Flexidip are on par in price, they are by no means the same product. Having used both Plastidip and Flexidip on this project (store was out and so where all the auto parts stores in 25 miles of me). Flexidip went on just as Plastidip, but Flexidip dried faster and left a smoother texture. It will be some time before I can determine which is better, but I'm putting my money on Plastidip. I just seems to have far better coverage, and after it dries seems to be more durable. As you can see in my photos, the Front bumper, Grill, Rear bumper, and name plates are all Plastidip. The door handles, wheels, and my super awesome stencil are Flexidip. Flexidip left a much smoother texture than Plastidip. I got the effect I was after, but I will probably end up redoing my wheels, and door handles with Plastidip. After using both for the first time ever, I probably would not recommend Flexidip over Plastidip. I recall seeing Plastidip on the shelves when I was in my teens, and Flexidip is a relatively new product. This leads me to believe that Rustoleum just seems to want to grab a piece of the pie. Bottom line, if your product isn't as good or better, you're going to go hungry. My 2 cents, peace and Semper Fi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing. Purchased 4 cans to spray my 98 civic hatchback aftermarket rims. Took longer than I wanted as I had to spray 6 coats per rim due to them being white. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product. Goes on even and dries quick. Will use the product to spray my entire car next!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plasti dip is a must try! To be honest i first found out about plasti dip while watching a video about a guy trying to paint his rims without ruining his old finish. I had some chrome accent peices on my car that i wanted black, but also wanted something i would be able to take off in time, and plasti dip is just that. It dries just like rubber and leaves the surface of what you paint over perfectly fine. Easy to spray and control and very easy to remove if at all ever needed to. Iv also used this product to spray non slip handles for my tools. For the price of the can you cant beat it! Will keep buying for sure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Automotive Use This product is great. I have used it on wheels and roof racks to refinish them and it works great, and if it comes out bad or you get sick of the look, you can peel it right off very easily. Works great for old faded trip, metal parts, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Matte Black Mustang I absolutely love Plasti Dip, especially now that my Home Depot started expanding the color choices and I hope they continue to do so with the many products coming out! I applied this to my car, and it looks great! (It's been Dipped for 7 months and still holding strong). You can't go wrong with any product from Performix!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be careful using over paint Easy to spray and dries fast. However, I used it to spray over enamel paint and it ended up in a big disaster. The Plasti Dip would disolve the paint below it, even through areas that were masked with masking tape. Appeared to shrink a lot while drying, leading to cracks. May have had to do with the paint dissolving beneath the top layer. I guess it can be good for other applications, such as on bare metal.
