Is this designed to be stand alone paneling or does it need to be installed over top of something else (such as plywood)?
Asked by: Novicebuilder
I used this type of T-111 siding on a storage shed over 30 years ago, and it's still standing strong. The panels are installed directly on the frame with nothing underneath. The frame was built with 24" centers. If I was building one today, I would make it on 16" centers. This was for a storage shed, so I don't believe I would consider using material this thin for a house, unless it is put over something else, but that's just my preference.

Can this be used indoors (for a ceiling), or does it release chemicals?
Asked by: cm
Yes Cm, it can be used indoors. The only problem with using it for a ceiling is where you join the top and bottom edges you will see a joint line. The long sides (8') have an overlap design that helps to hide the seam. Panel siding is really only intended to be used in a vertical position. If you can live with the butt joints being obvious and have some help installing it there really is no reason you can't use it on the ceiling.

would this be good to use to remodel the outside of your house? we are planning on using something like this to over our whole house. just making sure it was worth it. and of course staining it afterwards.
Asked by: jess
Yes it would. Please follow nailing schedule of one number 8 every 12-16 inches down the perimeters and center studs. Start on one side and work toward the opposite side nailing as you go.

What is the best way to attach this siding?

Asked by: Gina
Gina you need to follow a nailing schedule which is ... using number 8 or number 10 nails place one nail every 12 inches around the perimeter and one nail every 12 inches down each stud location in the center. It is best to get someone to hold the siding in place while you nail down one side then pushing out any possible bowing toward the other side nailing as you go.

I noticed some had rated it low and complained that it bowed. This is a light weight product and very easy to handle as opposed to T1-11 siding. This is true wood plywood and does have some bow and flex before nailing. However if you follow the proper nailing schedule for a product of this type you will not experience any bowing after application. The schedule is one nail (8's or 10's) around the perimeter every 12 inches and follow the same at each stud location in the center. You want to nail one edge down completely and push the bow to the other side nailing as you go. I just put up 41 sheets on my work building and it looks great. So far it has been rained on (hard rain not showers) three times this week and there is no bowing and I haven't applied a finish yet. Bear in mind if you have any misalignment in your frame work any siding will follow that misalignment. If you are looking for good product at an economical price I highly recommend this siding.

I kept the other one to use for other projects. Very good service and an excellent selection of lumber to choose from. Thanks HD!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value for the price. Purchased to use as wainscot. Had a few blimishes yhat had to be cleaned but overall pleased with how it turned out. I applied a clear varnish to seal and really makes the grain stand out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the money Used this to side a shed. I guess if I wanted something nicer, i would have paid for it, but this worked out just fine. I looked at another form of siding that was cheaper, but it seems to be poor quality.
